***2025-26 CFB Coaching Carousel***

This is a fascinating point, and maybe the key one. IMHO Rhule is much better in that regard, very player-focused, big on branding, willing to put himself out there as a 24/7 representative of the university. Campbell is old school in his demeanor and leadership style. He obviously cares for his players but seems to think it’s more important that he show it to them rather than that he tell everybody about it. And yes, he would have to adopt a more transactional mindset, you wouldn’t really be a developmental program. Of course they’re far from the only two guys being considered, that’s just where my mind went

I agree that he could work at Penn State as opposed to a lot of other B1G or SEC schools. My mind does go back to CW saying explicitly before the season or right after it started that Campbell sees a conference championship as really the only unfinished business of this stage of his career. Could he drop that in an instant for the cash? Sure. But for a guy who’s so big on “culture,” “climbing the mountaintop,” who’s so driven, I think that’s notable

Pure ignorant speculation on my part, but IF the environment where he raises his family is a top-line concern then Penn State may be on a shortlist of perfect destinations for Coach Campbell.

Because nothing says great place to raise kids as a community that all hid a serial pedo forever.

Sure but again it hasn’t happened yet in the NIL era which is the whole point. It’s super easy to say something will happen in the future, you have no burden of proof. But we are in the Wild West of NIL and it hasn’t happened yet that I am aware or or with any regularity
It's not exactly a controversial take to say that what's already happened at the top level will trickle down to lower levels, given a similar set of rules. That seems like it would be a pretty common-sense prediction.

I don't understand the people who don't view the wild-west-free-agency world as exactly that thing. We know how those work already -- some guys will take the highest bidder regardless of their national profile. Some will do the opposite.

Riley is a better coach than Campbell? What has Riley done with his two consecutive jobs of having infinite resources compared to us?
Are you serious with this? I mean what part do you want to compare? How about 4 conference titles to 0? Or about 6 double digit winning seasons to 1? Or want to go straight W/L record? Or players in the NFL?

I mean dude Campbell is great and I’d have him as my HC tomorrow but that’s just drinking the koolaid aid super hard.

Matt Rhule seems like a lesser James Franklin, to me. According to the interwebs:

Matt Rhule has a record of 0-11 against AP Top 10 teams. His overall record against AP Top 25 teams is 2-22, which reflects a challenging performance against ranked opponents throughout his coaching career.

Not impressed. They used Texas officials.

Ha. I just realized you’re not talking about Mike Riley.

I kinda forgot Lincoln Riley still existed. And I’m on the west coast.

College Sports just keeps on getting dumber and dumber. Penn State fires a coach for 3 loses in a row, even though they've been amongst the top of the Big 10 every year. The greed of people continues to get more and more, and it is ridiculous.

There were people in the Colorado game thread that wanted Matt Campbell fired. Some people are not rational.

I suppose our last two weeks helps maybe not him being the first call (recency of memory).....but yeah, have to think their folks would be poking around to ask and say "you e exceeded expectations at ISU and have a lot of Sunday players now ....think what you could do with our resources?.....oh, and we will double your yearly salary and your a legit good dude and Franklin wasn't...our fans will love you."

BUT, never seen any black versions of PSUs gear, so no sweat
The funny is for the black uni comment. I even read all the way to the end.

Those are what I would expect from someone in Riley's position, if not slightly less. Let's not pretend these two coaches were working with the same talent and expectations. Which coach has the tougher job(s), c'mon now.

I don't view Riley as having delivered on his expectations, and I don't think OU did either, since he walked away from them and hasn't done much else since. Is USC happy with him right now? How many playoff wins does he have? NY6 Bowl wins?

The dumbest and most ridciculous things are the buyouts. In the Big 10 alone, the buyouts total more than $300 million. In the past 20 years, Nebraska has paid out more than $50 million in buyouts of coaches and athletic directors. What a waste of money.
