Turns out you may need more oxygen after sprinting 200M compared to before.

I'd guess there will be a 'but these are world class athletes!' type of response like world class athletes' lungs don't get tired.

I’m sure it’s been discussed, but McLaughlin broke that Dutch woman (Bol) in the 400H. Absolutely ruined her.
Jumping into the way-back machine to 1984 and the LA Olympics, when Iowa State was the center of the 400 Hurdles Universe. Danny Harris won Silver in the Men's Race with a time of 48.13 and Nawal El Moutawakel won Gold with a time of 54.61.

In 2024, Sydney McLaughlin won Gold in 50.37 and France's Louise Maraval finished eighth with a time of 54.53.

Look at those times. It’s like seeing humans evolve in right before your eyes. That time would not have come close to qualifying for the 400H final in 2024, where the slowest qualifier was 53.83.

Breakdancing is on a regular channel. I have to pay for an extra channel for wrestling.

I wonder if Eminem will still have it in him to make a run at gold when they add “8 Mile” to the Olympic program.

Make it make sense.

EDIT: Instead of “dumb” voting, why not help a person understand. I asked for help in my understanding.

As far as I can tell, there are really no rules to “breaking”. They participate in 1v1 “battles” or “throw downs” (hence the reference to 8 Mile) and the outcome is based on “a minimum of three or more uneven number of judges scoring the battles on six criteria - creativity, personality, technique, variety, performativity and musicality”.

That’s it.

One might compare that to gymnastics or ice skating, but no…at least gymnastics, ice skating and similarly “judged” sports have required elements and defined criteria for said elements. This does not exist in “breaking”, as far as I can tell.

So…what am I watching? A “sport” or a popularity contest?

I compared it to wrestling, where there is zero objectivity. You win or lose in wrestling and there is no question about who wins, plus along with running and boxing, it’s the oldest Olympic sport on the planet.

Great performance today by men's volleyball after heartbreak two days ago. We'll be seeing a lot of turnover for the next Olympics. It was nice to see the locals cheering for USA too.
