NFL: ***2022 NFL Season Thread***

I believe this sets the games missed per case of sexual misconduct at .46, we'll round up and say one half of football for every woman assaulted.
Hey now, the NFL only looked at something like 5 cases, so it's really more like 2.2 games per case of sexual misconduct. When you consider that plus the fact that the official NFL shop has clothing cut specifically for women, it's obvious that the NFL really cares about women. /s

I am surprised that the penalty was so low. Not because I think the NFL cares about women or not having serial sexual predators in the league, but because I thought they had a higher opinion of the fans. I thought the NFL would say "If we suspend him less than a year at this point, the negative publicity, loss of fans, etc. will be worse than the cost of Watson being out." That's why I thought they'd suspend him for a year. By making this decision, the NFL is clearly saying that they don't think the fans as a whole will care or stop watching.

All that being said, I'm done with the NFL, and I want to thank them for making the decision easy. It would have been a whole lot more difficult of a decision if they had suspended him for a year and then let him come back.

They're not wrong, though. They spent multiple years with the "leader of the free world" telling people not to watch, and it didn't have much of an effect. The Watson case won't hold a candle to that. Cynical? Absolutely. But it's also the truth. This will be a discussion point for a couple of days and then again for a bit, when he returns from the suspension. After that, it's a footnote.

They're settled on probably the biggest punishment they could get without it going to court and dragging this out. Watson and the NFLPA were going to skip merrily on their way with the 6 games and no fine. NFL originally were thought to want at least a season, but rumors were they would have settled for 8 games and $8 million before they sent it to that judge. After the appeal, Watsons camp probably negotiated games for dollars as each game this year is only costing him a tiny amount of money as his salary is only $1 million this year. 11 games probably punts the Brown's season this year, so the league kinda punishes the Browns too this way.

I know, but I thought they'd be a little more worried. Or at least worried about the casual fan/female fans or potential fans. Because people that are huge fans of teams won't stop watching. But I'm a casual fan; I don't think I'm really going to miss the NFL all that much. I thought the NFL would be more worried about that portion of its fanbase and its ability to attract women

They can say "At the NFL, we hold our players to the highest standards, and that's why the league appealed the initial suspension, and now Deshaun Watson has been given the harshest penalty ever given to a player for a transgression of this nature."
And technically that's true, so all of the sponsors will be satisfied, and life will move on. Sure some folks will say they're done with the NFL, and maybe some of them actually will be, but not enough of them to have much of an impact.

If a rookie is playing as much as he has is that usually an indication that he's got a good chance at the roster?
