The Broncos thought this too when they traded for Wilson and gave him a big extension and look how that turned out. Bet they have some buyers remorse and would love to get their draft picks back. I don't see the Rams in play either as they gave up a lot to get Stafford and did not have a 1st round pick last year and won't again this year (Lions made out good on the 2023 pick!) These teams trading away 1st rounders for aging QBs will just wind up setting their franchise back further and strap their ability to improve through the draft or free agency with the draft picks and cap space it takes to acquire them. At least with guys like Brady, Carr (assuming he gets cut) and Garappolo in free agency you can probably nab them or more reasonable terms and not have to give up valuable draft picks in the process. Some other less expensive possibilities out there too depending on how things shake out: Previewing the 2023 free agent QB class: Lamar Jackson, Geno Smith, Tom Brady and more | NFL News, Rankings and Statistics | PFF

The Broncos were and still are a QB and a coaching staff away from being good. They just didn't realize (what Seattle realized) was that Wilson was on the downward slope as well. But, one (well two with the coach) mistake that big can set a franchise back a decade. Might as well sell off what you can to start the rebuild before the players you have lose their value.

I think Wilson was pretty clearly their plan B to Aaron Rodgers. And when that trade didn't materialize, they pivoted, and the result was was what we saw. I have no doubt that if their initial plan had worked out, and Rodgers was acquired, he would have had a better season than Wilson. Not necessarily because he's so much better, but because the Broncos had set the table for him specifically with the hiring of Hackett. The comfortability would have already been there.

To be clear, that's not the only reason why Wilson failed, not even the biggest reason, but I think it was A reason.

I figured he'd get one more year, they were just never healthy.
With the GM stepping away, better just to clean house. Plus it seemed like Murray and Kingsbury didn't have a great relationship, and the Cards have too much invested in Kyler to let that issues persist.

Texans firing Lovie Smith after 1 year is a bit of a head scratcher. Not sure there are many coaches out there that could have done significantly better with the roster there. Found out that Davis Mills is not a starting QB, went with a rookie RB most of the year, dealt with the drama of Brandin Cooks and didn't have much else at the WR position or TE for that matter either. That is a full on rebuild mode roster with little to no upper tier talent at most positions.

They've done it twice now. That organization is garbage.

$800 million.

That's what NFL teams are paying fired coaches and front office guys as of the middle of December. Just add this to the pile of money going up in smoke.

Did Lovie get fired for winning the last game, costing them the #1 pick? It certainly couldn't have been because of the Texans' record, which was totally expected.

He was probably gone regardless, just a convenient excuse at this point.

Rodgers is hot garbage. Last year at this time when asked about showing up to jell with the rookie receivers he said it was the coaching staffs responsibility to get them ready for him. This year he heading to OTAs.

Claims his non communication with the team was due to poor cell service.

Takes a final shot on the way out the door about playing for a team that has a chance to win it all finally.

Truth is the last couple years every deep ball he threw was fluttering.

Honestly even if it is a rebuild much like his first year starting i so glad to be rid of him. So much I may even root for the Patriots a couple times this season.
