One positive of Kubiak retiring (I'd be fine if he stayed) would be if Zim moves on from the OL coach. The guards they've rolled out this year, other than E. Cleveland, are the worst in the league. Need someone who can assess & develop an entire OL.

Kicking - used a 5th, I think, on Carlson and cut him after the GB fiasco. I'd hope giving Bailey some time was a show of Zim's maturing, but it may just have been the practicalities of COVID...

With the signings they've made, esp. Cousins & Barr, the Vikings are mired for mediocrity for at least two more years. I've been supportive of both Spielman & Zimmer, but turned against Spielman with the Cousins extension (plays great against crap Ds and crappy against good/great Ds; he's a robot who is numb pre-snap and in the pocket; nothing like Purdy in that or moxie/leadership; has a better arm, but that's it) and I think Zimmer has shown little improvement in game strategy/mgt. He has to bear some responsibility for ST failures; he acts like O & ST are separate from him - like a coordinator would, not a HC.

So, I think we need to start over - won't happen, though, for at least one more year. Will be interesting to see what they do with high-priced vets that they can move from without "Cousins" pain: Barr, Reiff (had a good year), Rudolph, Harris, ...

How the hell do other teams (NO, GB, KC) pay sky high salaries for their QB yet still have quality across their squad yet Kirk’s salary is the main gripe why the Vikings are in salary cap purgatory?

The salary cap is a figment of our imagination.

But seriously, all of those teams look better when they have HOF-level QBs too. That tends to hide deficiencies that would show otherwise.

Yeah, it would be nice to get some continuity. There's actually plenty of reason for optimism on the offense. Improving the line will be key, but there are plenty of pieces. Cook is a weapon, along with Jefferson and Thielen. And Cousins actually played pretty well after the bye week. Prior to the bye, he had 11TDs to go with 10 INTs. After, he was 24 TDs to 3 INTs.

Garys son Klint is the QB coach for Minnesota right now. Wonder if Gary coming on board last year, if there was some sort of an “agreement” there. Wouldn’t be surprised if they give his kid a look.

I would probably be okay with that
