But we did use a 7th round for Carlson, right? Then he had one atrocious game that cost us a loss to GB and was cut by Zim. I believe he’s a fairly reliable kicker for OAK now right?
That's not exactly the same thing as taking a kicker with a first round pick.

I think Spielman used a fairly high pick on Walsh and also used a 4th on a punter once.
Walsh was a 6th round pick and the punter was a 5th.

Well...he did lead the league in scoring this year. Only missed 2 FGs and 2 XPs all year.
I feel like Minnesota pulled the plug on him too early.

I may have my timeline mixed up, and I’m too lazy to look this all up, but I believe the Vikes lost that playoff game to Seattle on Walsh’s bad miss then they gave him a year to figure it out and he didn’t. So they cut him and dedicated a draft pick to a new kicker which was Carlson. Then he had that horrid 0-4 game against GB that the Vikings would have won if not for his misses. Zim cut him right after the game.

Zim went through that period where he had no patience for kickers. Even now, I was very surprised he didn’t cut Bailey a couple weeks ago. I’ve always felt like he doesn’t do much to give confidence to kickers because as an old school guy, he probably doesn’t really think they’re football players.

Hopefully the Vikings for Zimmer in the next couple of hours so we can interview Eric Bieniemy

That's just not going to happen. He's not getting fired this year.

He will next year. They can get better as a team and their record might not improve with the NFC West and AFC North on the docket.

Recent history with OC hires has me concerned, I'll be honest.
Yeah, it would be nice to get some continuity. There's actually plenty of reason for optimism on the offense. Improving the line will be key, but there are plenty of pieces. Cook is a weapon, along with Jefferson and Thielen. And Cousins actually played pretty well after the bye week. Prior to the bye, he had 11TDs to go with 10 INTs. After, he was 24 TDs to 3 INTs.
