2018/19 Depth Chart predictions

Can you imagine a talent like Senaca with THIS coaching staff?
I feel like Steve Brickey's offense really limited the potential that Seneca had. Once teams zeroed in on what we were running, they shut us down hard. I also feel like they tried to keep Seneca in the pocket more as the season went on, with poor results.
It’s hard to blame the OC when the only talent advantage he had was Seneca imo.

I guess I don't see a JC QB coming in to be anything but depth, unless the staff doesn't like Noland. Moore's knee basically puts him and Mitchell at the same level given Mitchell's early enrollment, JC might actually be behind them unless the JC could also enroll early. Not ideal to have a Freshman backup, but an incoming JC might not be much better if can't early enroll.

All 3 can run better than either of this year's QB's, excluding Lanning since he was just a "package" guy, so that will add a dimension.

So QB is a concern, OL is concern at least early, safeties/star and LB are concerns, hopefully kicking isn't but if it is, uh-oh. Will be LOTS of youth next year, may be a step back since this year's team is over-achieving. Certainly won't sneak up on anyone next year, although the schedule seems a little better.

If Park isn't back (no clue if he will be or not), there is absolutely no way this staff will go into next year with a RS So (with limited experience), a RS Fr coming off of an ACL injury, and a true freshman.

OL is a concern, but I feel much better about it knowing that 3 starters this year are sophomores and 1 who has started is a RS Fr.

Safety is a concern given the youth, but there will be a trio of RS Sophomores and a JUCO that should help shore that up.

I am not concerned about the LB.

I assume the staff will continue to look for grad transfers wherever they see a need and fit.

Maybe but the odds of transfer OL being large contributors is so small. I mean, Catalina, Dawson and Rodgers aren't really odd scenarios. I think only Rodgers is even contributing. It's just a position where, if you put in 4 years and aren't going to play, there's probably a reason. I know that wasn't the case for Catalina but he wasn't all that great. I think next year there will be enough bodies where any transfer would be counted on for depth, not starters like this year.

QB is interesting if Park is in question. I know of a probable one who may not be starter material but he'd be a grad transfer with 2 years and a solid recruiting profile which includes a Toledo offer.

For the record, although Tyler Catalina wasn’t that great for Georgia last year according to many Georgia message boards, he did make the 53 man roster for the Washington Redskins and has recently started in two games. I would love to have a graduate transfer of that caliber.

I stand corrected on him. Last I knew he was struggling at Georgia. Still, though, those guys, especially guys bumping up a level for that grad year, are a rarity. Things like Dawson are much more common and I just don't think we have the need we did the last two years. True freshmen making the staff think about playing them indicates to me that they are very good and theoretically will take their biggest jump over the next 10 months.

I'm not saying we wouldn't take a guy who could start at tackle. I'm saying those guys don't come around all that often and when they do, it's a big battle to get them because even elite teams, when they try to find 5 guys to play OL, have a perceived hole.

Brian Bobeck barely played at Minnesota and was a good starting Olineman as a 5th year senior here.

Can you imagine talent like Seneca, Troy Davis, Montgomery, etc. with a great O-line in front of them. Something we have had struggled with forever. If we secure up our line everything comes easier.

Troy had good run blocking OLines. DMac had some good ones. Chizik put together a heck of an Oline for Rhoads.

We have had some bright spots, but overall its been pretty bad. I don't remember much of a Line for TD, he pretty much did it on his own, if I remember they were some of the smallest in the big 12. We have never been consistent at line. We have a good player here or there or a good year here or there, but have always struggled to maintain a decent line.
As far as Cheezdik goes, I will never give him credit for anything good, yeah I hold a grudge.

Going by published sizes, Re-al is a noodge taller than Seneca. Watch Re-al throw; iirc, his completion average is between 65%-70%.

I'm not shy about thinking it - or saying it - Re-al has the possibility of becoming Seneca 2.0.
I think Real is more of a home run threat with his straight line speed, while Seneca was far more elusive. See Trever Ryen vs Deshaunte Jones. My only concern is the size of his hands and throwing a football in cold weather. Maybe it's ridiculous, but Brees and Wilson both have huge hands.
