MLB: 2014 Chicago Cubs

As mentioned previously, I'm thrilled with what the Cubs have been doing lately, and even more thrilled thinking that Rizzo and Soler haven't played together yet. The prospect of a lineup with Alcantara, Rizzo, Castro, Baez, Soler and Bryant in any order is amazing.

Also, I know guys like Valbuena and Coghlan may not be in the long term picture, but they've played really well lately.

Add Russell and you may have just listed the Cubs starting lineup (minus pitcher and catcher) for the second half next year.

So, you're saying Alcantara, Rizzo, Castro, Baez, Soler, Bryant, Russell, Valbuena and Coghlan? How do you see that lineup panning out defensively (obviously, one won't start because of Castillo)

C-Castillo
1b- Rizzo
2b: Baez
SS: Russell
3b: Bryant
LF: Castro
CF: Alcantra
RF: Soler

It depends on what they think of Bryant's 3b defense. He could be in left, with Baez at third and Castro at Second.

Whew! Young. Young. Young. But what potential!

yep. The thing is, it's not like they'd be rushing anyone either. Russell will probably start next year in AAA and I'd be shocked if Bryant isn't with the Cubs early next year. The rest are already on the roster.

So either they trade someone or that's going to be the starting lineup barring injury

and that's what makes me think one or two of these guys are getting sold off. That team is chalked full of potential, but I think you need a veteran or two in the every day lineup to balance things out. The tricky part is who you'd get rid of, though.

...and can you imagine if Schwarber stuck at catcher and came up in a few years...

Theo and co have been consistent with the message that they are building a team that can compete for titles from 2017 on, they aren't going to sell off young guys with elite potential just to bring in more experienced guys, I expect them to be willing to live with the growing pains that will occur in the next couple of seasons.

Yeah, I'm sure at some point at least one will get sold off. My list didn't even mentioning Schwarber, Almora, or McKinney.

Baez, Rizzo, and Bryant would be the only untouchables IMO. I know Baez strikes out a ton, but a middle infielder with that kind of power isn't just an allstar player, he's a potential mvp player.

As a hypothetical who would be the guys to move from that line up for a vet and/or pitching?

Castro, Baez or Alcantara would be on my list hypothetically.

Castro is a proven bat and the trade offers could be interesting
Don't throw anything at me, but I could see Baez flaming out. Big swing with big results when he makes contact. When he makes contact.
Alcantara seems like a role guy. Not a huge stick. C+ or B- type of guy. Can't imagine the trade market is clamoring for his services.

A couple of package deals and maybe get a #3 pitcher or a veteran outfielder
