MLB: 2014 Chicago Cubs

Can someone explain Castro's extreme lack of hustle and focus this last week? I read that he probably thinks he's going to be traded, but I doubt that would cause a man to absolutely tank like he is.

You'd think he'd be giving it everything he had to try and stay on the team.

He just came off the bereavement list a couple of days ago, I think.

EDIT: Car crash a few days ago killed a relative and 3 friends. Something like that will mess anybody up for a while.

If the Cubs go .500 from here on out, they will finish with 74 wins....74. That about 15-20 more then I would of predicted. Im still pulling for 4th place and to finish in single digits behind division/wildcard winner.

Possible. I saw them together at a company outing a few years back. I thought he was her dad at first. There has to be at least a 20 year age difference.

But they do have at least one kid together, so who knows.
ConAgra? 24 years diff. Son just celebrated his 5th birthday. Our 10 wedding anniversary is in November.

easy tiger, we've finally got a respectable team but we've still got a team where most of the lineup won't sniff .250 and a pitching staff consisting of two and a half men

I don't think there's five NL teams better than the Cubs right now. 19-13 over basically the last month, only the Nationals have a better record. We still haven't seen a lineup with Rizzo and Soler together in it. Arrieta, Wada and Hendricks all have pitched very well, and the Cubs bullpen, full of young arms, has slowly turned into just a lights out group. Ramirez-Strop-Rondon have been just slamming the door on teams for the last month.

I certainly hope that Charlie Sheen isnt on our pitching staff. Thats a suspension waiting to happen.(yes, I know that he isnt on the show anymore).

I'm pretty sure I'd gladly take Rick "Wild Thing" Vaughn any day.

Not Cubs-related, but I just saw this online. San Diego's Seth Smith is officially the stupidest guy to ever step into the box. The Dodgers put four guys between first and second, and have the third baseman play more like a shortstop, with the bases loaded and 1 out in the bottom of the 12th with the bases loaded. And Smith swings away, naturally hitting it right to one of the four members of the wall, who throws home for the force out.

The Padres eventually won the game, so it's a moot point. But how the **** can a guy step into the box, see a shift like that with the winning run at third base, and NOT bunt down the line? I mean for ****'s sake.

Because unless you are a speedy leadoff hitter, or a pitcher, you never practice bunting I guess.

As mentioned previously, I'm thrilled with what the Cubs have been doing lately, and even more thrilled thinking that Rizzo and Soler haven't played together yet. The prospect of a lineup with Alcantara, Rizzo, Castro, Baez, Soler and Bryant in any order is amazing.

Also, I know guys like Valbuena and Coghlan may not be in the long term picture, but they've played really well lately.
