2011 wbb recruits?

Decoding foreign language messages on Facebook to track potential recruits. I love your dedication!

What's your feelings on this recruit? How well would she team with Moody in the backcourt? Are both being looked at as potential point guards, or is one more a two guard?

They are both PGs capable of scoring, so I think either one could play PG or 2G. When Moody was signed in November, BF mentioned that he thought she could play 1 or 2. If we have both, I'd expect Vanloo to play more PG and Moody more 2G.

Vanloo is one of the top PG of her age group in all of Europe. Her Belgium U17 team placed 4th at the 2010 world championships (behind USA, France, and China), and she led her team in scoring at 16.6 PPG (4th overall) in the tournament. She can apparently shoot the three and score off the dribble, a trait ISU really needs in a PG and a trait I believe Moody and Blaskowsky both have as well.

Looking ahead to 2012, everything I hear about Blaskowsky makes me think of Heather Ezell. I think she'd be capable of running PG at times but I personally expect her to play more 2G unless we don't get Vanloo and we don't bring in another PG in 2011 or 2012.

Thanks for the info.

Kidd Blaskowsky sounds like a great shooter and we can never have enough of those. Is she the one that was friends/teammates with the post girl, Lang? Be nice to land her as well.

I'm disappointed mred, we need more info. chuckle. So Bill might be still recruiting depending on Vanloo?

I would say for 2012 or 2103 class. It may mean the difference of someone who is being recruited now, getting a offer or not.

Next year's guard court looks strong as is, Mansfield, Moody, Cole, Harris, Schroll.

The loss of Bolte will be huge, but next year could be a blow out year too. The question is who is the leader next year, my guess Mansfield. The next two years for ISU women could be huge. I think competing for a final four is not out of the question if all stay and are healthy and continue to progress. Say what?

Here's why.

We will be able to start doing things that we haven't done before. The question is, will BF go there? I think with Schroll, Hallie, Cole, and Pop on the court, we can start running the occasional full court press, and some 2 1 2 time clock eating presses. We will also have an amazingly tough defense. If I had a few minutes with BF, I'd be asking why we aren't even trying this some this year. It would definitely throw some teams off, with Mansfield, Cole/Schroll, Bolte, Pop, and Hallie, we have size and speed enough to cause problems, and with 2 of the last three at the basket, they are big enough and quick enough to guard both guards and posts. I think its time for ISU to start some on ball pressure, because we have a couple athletes that can do it. Not all the time, but mixing it up would make this team more aggressive, and I think help their offensive game a little too with increased opponent turnovers.

You are overrating the athleticism of these players to think they would be successful pressing full court.

Out of the guards listed, Mansfield is the only proven B12 starter. Cole and Harris have not shown much of anything yet, Cole and Schroll can both be liabilities on offense while Harris appears to be a one-trick pony so far with her 3 point shooting. I do think Moody has the potential to be a real good player.

BF has got to get some scorers. If Hallie C is unable to replace most of Bolte's perimeter scoring next season, I have no idea who will. BF's best teams have had 4 players on the court who could shoot the trey and space the floor for his post players. He doesn't have anything close to that now and, as a result, the offense consistently struggles to score against the best teams.

I hope Schroll spends the entire offseason shooting three pointers. Hopefully she does it under the watchful eye of Bolte and perhaps Fred can give her some pointers, because if Schroll could be just a decent shooter, she would be a great player.

You argue against a defensive scheme by citing their offensive limitations. I think this team has exceptional defense - fortunately, because of the offensive limitations. BF has noted in the past that pressing takes energy and I suspect he doesn't think he has the depth this year for that, but, occassionally, maybe.

I would just like us to do some occasional 2/1/2 or just on ball pressure up the court to take 8-12 seconds of the other teams shot clock. It also makes it harder for them to get into an offensive rotation. Who knows, it may give us a turnover or two. Though I know BF likes for us to be set in defense.

I think that's a big issue. We thrive on forcing low-percentage shots. An occasional press could help with that by giving the opponent less shotclock but it could also lead to transition baskets, something we don't give up often.

I appreciate where he is coming from, but I think we have athletes we haven't had before too. Tough call, but I think watching the Big 12 games, everyone knows what we are going to do, I think the occasional press or on-ball pressure would shake that up a bit and make opponents think a little. I also think it would throw off teams scouting us for the Big dance. But he is the coach, and I just a couch coach.

Or maybe he's thinking of breaking it out during the NCAA tournament as a wrinkle other teams are unprepared for.

We did use some sporadic pressing earlier in the season. It was rare, but it did happen.

while Harris appears to be a one-trick pony so far with her 3 point shooting.

I'm not sure how much WBB you've watched with this statement. I've been pleasantly surprised by her passing. She's had some pretty dazzling assists and she doesn't turn the ball over much. Frankly, I'd rather have her in the game than Cole just because of her 3-point threat. She needs to develop a dribble-drive game, sure, and hopefully, she's working on it.

I might have said that in the past, but Cole has made real strides in her game over the past month or so. Hopefully Harris can continue to improve her defense, which is probably the only thing keeping her from getting more PT. With Bolte gone next year, there's a lot of PT up for grabs at 2G and 3G/Wing.

BF has talked about trying to get Bolte a little more rest. She's playing a ton of minutes and I think that might be starting to affect her shot. That probably means more Schroll and Harris. I hope we can get Mansfield more rest as well. She's been doing ok, but I'm afraid of her hitting a wall.

Anyone think we really have a chance at Bingley for Lee's Summit West. I know she has been to camp in Nebraska and Kiesha Walker is an assistant on her HS team.

Royal,
since I can't make both games (Brynn plays at 1730 up north and Emiah at 1900 right down the road) I think I might go see Emiah again

twist, has been said in the past that the chance of giving up too many easy undefended points kills him so don't look for it.
also been told here late that Moody has really become a studdette with big hopes now!
Bingley down here is a 12. Barrett is a 13
