#2 punter landed!

Even with a great offense and great defense, being able to kick your way out of trouble can be the difference between a win and a loss.
I think many would agree, a few different special teams plays over the years would make a big difference in a lot of those close games we lost. Special teams are really important, and dont get enough love.

CMC is bringing in three new placekickers this off-season, and Assalley is back. How is that “not enough love”?

Yeah, the difference between now and the past is that this might be a difference maker in our games vs the top of the conference, whereas in the past having a good punter probably only mattered in our games vs the middle\bottom.

Im not talking about from CMC, or even ISU. I mean in general, In football overall, special teams are more important that many do or want to give credit for.
Just an overall opinion. I mean look at 247 and rivals, they either dont rank this guy or give him 2 stars. It is what it is I, just dont think those people think special teams are as important as they really are. They can win and lose a lot of games.

Yeah this is true, Not sure if you can call him a true 5 star, he is a 5 star when only considering other kickers.
But someone tell me what metric do you look at when you look at the star level? What rating does anyone officially go by?
It seams like everyone has a different rating depending on where you look, so which is the official one? Or is it really you just go by whatever rates them the highest?

These are honest questions, not sarcasm I really want to know. I'm sure someone that follows all the recruiting in much more detail than I do has some answers.

Specialists are always referred by their kicking rating from camps like Kohl's.

So we get good and then we get a good punter? Where were these dudes when we had to punt all the time. That would seem like a good time for a punter to want to kick for us. Saying that, Ill take it. Good punters are very valuable.

Honestly I had the same thought.

First welcome to CycloNation to Tyler. No doubt Perkins will improve the team and is a needed piece on any team that proves beneficial. We've witness years of, um, shaky kicking game can short circuit a game.

Now I hope we don't need to him you perform often on the field. When he does show of the golden leg and corner coffin accuracy it is in blowouts. :p

No more amazing than the enthusiasm in this thread consisting of 8 posts in 2 hours. We could sign the #2 player in any other position group and the thread would be 8 pages long by now.

Well, either that, or people remember how the last top ranked kicker we signed panned out. LOL (Narveson)

That's what I thought of. Maybe punting/kicking is like golf in that some days you have it and some you don't. I'm not sure if we can put much stock into Kohl's grades.

Welcome Tyler! It's good to have an outstanding kicker on board! Enjoy your time with the Cyclones, it will be great.
