We got ****** hard over here around CR and to the North. Roads this morning were as bad as I can remember.

Rural areas did not fare well with the wind. The CR even struggled with the efficiency of their plowing efforts yesterday. Didn't have a plow come down our street until 3:30PM yesterday. Then had six go by in the next hour and 15 minutes.

Random thought. The CR metro got 7-9" if it had not switched over to sleet for a bit Monday night we would have received close to a foot in some areas.

Maybe I shouldn't be sure about it? Good for her, I guess!

Pretty sure that just stops when you say I do. Like, literally the second you say it, you just realize it is never to happen again. Ever. Eeevveeeeer.

I'm sorry, it sounds like you married a quitter.

All of this Hwy 13 talk is giving me flashbacks!

I hate Hwy 13 between Manchester and Strawberry Point or maybe that road hates my family. Decades ago it tried to kill my mother on an icy day but only killed the '69 Buick Wildcat. That was back when 13 still had the little rolled curb and outlet drains with a guard post at them. Was a killer design, literally. Few years later it tried to kill my dad , ice again, when he rolled his 10 ton gas truck. Almost killed the truck (insurance totalled it) but it was resurrected and lived to drive another day. The tankwagon kinda acted as a rollbar.

That's how old Highway 20 was in NW IA. I can remember driving that road when it was raining and the curbs prevented the road from draining. I actually hit mirrors with a pickup on that road when I was in high school and that was with my right wheels on the curb. Scary stuff!

True this! Hated driving my dad's tankwagon on that road. The truck was 8' mirror to mirror and that was the lane width inside those damnable curbs.

I haven't seen drifts this big in quite a few years. NE Iowa did get nailed with this last storm. It looks like most of the 8 inches plus of snow blew into drifts along the roads..

Remnants of the last few weeks of weather...I'm hearing phantom snowblowers running at all hours. Send help.

One of my students ended up in the ditch on 13 this morning.

The car on highway 30 just off of Edgewood looked like it did a rollover and ended up on its side. I can only imagine the carnage on 380.
380 had 3 or 4 semis in the ditch today on my way to work. Along with about 10 or more vehicles. Worst one had to be on the north bound side, just south of CR, an SUV had apparently flipped a couple times and was still on its top next to a field by the fence.

It's on these days that I really enjoy my South facing house. Back yard is deep, but the driveway isn't bad.

My dad put together a "words of wisdom" package for myself and my 2 bothers when we graduated from HS.. Just a list of bullet points "do's and don'ts" of life. One of the them said When secting your future homes, only consider options that face south or east Trust me, you'll like them better in the winter time" :)

He was right about that and many other things

Good advice. Love my south facing driveway. It makes a huge difference...
