Post game Cole said he heard the whistle before he kicked it. That might have affected his kick.
I heard that interview, too, and you may be right. But I prefer to think Cole used it as a effective warm up for what would be a perfectly executed game winner.

All I have to say is during the time out, I had an Iowa fan blasting in my ear about how this is what Kirk does, he's a master at it. To which I said, yeah, but our guy missed, so he'll make the next one, thanks for the practice shot.

*Am i the only one who thought iowa was out of timeouts before kf called timeout on that last field goal? I could of sworn the anouncer said iowa used their last time out and it was dumb because they could have used it with over a minute left

QUESTION -- the timeout with 7 seconds left (before the Netten miss-that-didn't-count): who called it?

Iowa State called it

Rhoads wanted the TO. But, based on his reaction when the whistle blew, he didn't want it that soon. I'm guessing he told the official that he wanted a TO, and it was granted before he could finish saying "...at 0:03" (or whatever).

Ya I was at a bar downtown Iowa City for the game. When they signaled no good I had about 10 hawkeye fans flipping me off, laughing and cussing at me. I kept trying to tell them Kirky boy called a time out so we get to kick it again but they were too busy being d-bags to listen. Once they finally turned back to the TV to see Cole midkick and then it sail perfectly good, the look on their faces was priceless.

I need to watch the replay. Did it look like Netten's head came up when he heard the whistle on his first kick? I hate the fact that coaches plan the TO right before the snap. But thats the game I guess

I hate icing the kicker. Maybe thats because im a cowboys fan and it always burns the Cowboys. Few years ago it did in back to back games

Didn't CPR ice OSUs kicker in the #2 win? Or am I recalling another game? I seem to remember him doing it effectively and laughing on the sideline and all of our fans loving it...

Maybe, but what I remember him laughing about was a game, I think against Colorado, where he called timeout and the kicker missed. He called timeout again and the kicker missed again. We were out of timeouts and then the kicker missed on the one that actually counted. He was smirking all the way to the locker room.

I think that may be when I was thinking. On review I don't think it was the osu game.

I remember this. At the half the sideline reporter came up to him to question what he did. He just stated that they wanted to make sure they got their (ISUs) playcall right!

Good point.

Thanks. Its the truth and will counter what tavern hawks and their lapdog media machine will spew for 12 months:

The official excuse is pasted all over the Gazette today.

Front Page of Paper: "End-of-game reboot seals ISU vicotry over UI"
Front Page of Sports, above fold: "Netten nails a do-over"
Front Page of Sports, below fold: "ISU reboots, Iowa freezes up"

A 'reboot' never happened... only one kick happened in that game.
