12/17 Official Coaching Search Thread

Here's a wild guess - with HEAD COACHING experience.....

What about Chan Gailey????

He was at Georgia Tech who cut him to get Paul Johnson from Navy. But, he had a decent record at Gtech and has extensive NFL experience. And would not be his first horse/pony show????

I have been thinking about this for awhile. He has brought a terrible KC offense to being a pretty good one. He adapts to his players like at KC running the spread/pistol and using the Slash in Pittsburg. plus he has head coaching experience.

Good call.

M&M just said something smart.
Watch Gregory L. Geoffroy, when he gets on a plane the search will be over.

Memo to Marty - university presidents get on planes every day - fundraising and alumni events, seminars, conferences, etc. They don't just stay in their office or on campus. Geoffrey flies all over the country...

Marty just got a call from California... Could be breaking news.. ;)

He's such an attention *****, but I still find him entertaining.

I can tell you that Geoffrey was still in ames this morning. He was at the asphalt conference today.

His background is Chemistry and this conference was about renewable asphalt. He had a 10 minute speech at the beginning.

Regarding Pat Hill...

Keith called a bit ago, asking a couple other questions. We got talking about Pat Hill. He saw that Hill kind of scoffed at the mention of ISU. A guy out there that knows Hill told Keith, Hill does this all the time he's rumored about a job and then he'll still go interview.

So I would not put much into that.

Plus, as I told Keith, the guy was getting on a bus to take off to their bowl game. I bet his players were on that bus or very close. What was he supposed to say? "Yeah, I'm very interested!"

No. Hill may not be our guy, but I don't think it's because of his reaction to the questions today.

I think he is saying the original thought was to have the new hire at the bbll game on Sat.

Isn't this just something made up by M & M?

As clandestine that JP's movements are during coaching searches - why would he have anything leaked about a presser on Friday and having the new coach at the MBB game on Saturday?

The guy can clearly coach and has been rumored a lot over the last several years with it dying down some recently as his teams have not been quite as good but is Fresno not reputed for taking guys of both questionable character and questionable academics...I thought that was the case...but I am not certain. Does anyone have any insight on this front?

From his Wiki page:

Also under Hill's leadership, Fresno State has greatly improved the academic performance of its football players. During Hill's tenure the team has produced (as of 2005) 65 Academic All-WAC players, compared to a total of nine in the entire history of the program before Hill's arrival. In 1999, senior cornerback Payton Williams became the first Fresno State football player to achieve Academic All-American status. In each of the last two years, the Bulldog football program has produced two of the most decorated students on the Fresno State campus.

My concern is itmay take till next week to hire a coach after players went home for XMAS and at home the Kelvin Sampsons of the world will be texting them to come to LaLaLand. Really need to find a coach by Friday or risk busting a whole year of recruiting. If we have to wait till new Years Bowls to be played, we may also lose out in recruiting. We may have a pile of jucos signing in Feb.

Just bumping the thread cause it was off the main page for 40 mins and 4 new "why not Coach ______" popped up.

I hope that it is Charlie Strong and may he keep all the recruits at ISU:wink:
