And ESPN will have ISU ranked around 63rd. ;)

The “fpi” espn is pushing had us like 15 spots below KSU and still several spots below after winning at neutral site. I actually enjoy computer polls but this one is incredibly irrational given I’m not sure how or why ksu could be so much higher to start.

The Dakotas (all 4 of them) just can't wrap their heads around the fact that the gulf between the 4 money leagues and the FCS has exploded over the last decade. It's still 2010 to them. It's almost sad.

I'm the biggest FCS guy on this board and I'm fully aware that FCS Football has sucked for the last decade and it's only going to get worse.
It could be the annoying LakeBison guy but it seems like ISU becomes their P4 punching bag. Idk if it’s just proximity or our loss to NDSU several years back, but the fixation is strange. I don’t hear them make the same claims against other midwest P4s, but then again I’m not in those circles

Non-ESPN talking heads have openly ripped apart how blatantly terrible that FPI is. It manipulated solely to push their SEC agenda or other blue bloods. It's not an actual metric.

It's every FBS team they face. NDSU was convinced they were going to roll out and beat Oregon before COVID canceled that game. They were sure they were going to roll Colorado last year.

It's the weirdest, most insular, delusional echo chamber fan base their is.

I hate when our fans go over to an opposing team's fan board and start sniping at them. Fan boards are a place for delusion and they have a right to be as wrong as they want to be without some fan from an opposing team coming in and trying to burst their bubble in a rude way.

I don't see anyone doing that from here over there. Only bit of "rudeness", if you want to call it that, is putting Lakes in his place.

I feel like we're just going to lean on them. They have 4 returning starters on defense. Yeah, they have some P4 transfers, but those guys aren't transferring to FCS if they were actually playing. KSU has probably the best DL we'll see this year (top 3 at least) and we broke them in the 4th quarter. On offense, it looks like they have a good RB. That's great. We play good RBs every week. I had high hopes for Bouman, but he couldn't beat out Dekkers and transferred. No doubt he has a big arm, but we're just not going to have to worry about him taking off like we did Avery Johnson. He's not going to sidestep many blitzes, he's not going to be running option or QB power or QB sweeps. They also don't have the freaks that KSU had at WR. This offense is MUCH easier to scheme for than KSU.

ISU just is so much more balanced than they used to be when UNI would give us a game. They would just crowd the box and hope our passing game would make mistakes, which they usually did in the first game. We're to the point now where teams like this can crowd the box and we will still pick up yards and grind out first downs. We did it against KSU and we'll do it Saturday.

I could see SD covering though. This IS a trap game and we'll probably have some jet lag. Not to mention, Campbell will go conservative once we're up 2 scores. I just think that the only way SD gets within 10 is disasterous turnovers on our end. And I don't think that we'll be passing enough for that to happen.

I think people forget a team like UCLA now has to play at Rutgers which is about a 5.5-6 hour flight and 2500 miles.

The charter flight from Des Moines to Dublin was about 7.5 hours and 3900 miles. Definitely further but not like it's in a different world.
3 time zones versus I believe 5 this time of year is what is important, but your point stands.

I can normally brush off delusional homerism, but foreseeing the floor here for USD being an 11-point loss is certainly an optimistic take.
I’m the one that made that post on our board and I’ll stand by it. I should’ve added I can see it going 35-10 also. I just don’t think so and here’s why. I do think it’s a trap game for you and you’d be nuts to think different. That’s not a slight against Iowa State, it’s just reality. Hell, I’m a huge Cyclone fan and this will be the first time I’ve ever cheered against them, but I played at USD and proud of our ascension in the FCS ranks. We may get humbled quick, I don’t know, but that’s why they play the game.

Maybe one way to look at it is how the SEC and Big 10 view the Big 12. They think the gap is much wider than it really is. That’s a little like we feel. I think the majority of the fans revert back to yesteryear when games like this were automatic. And like one poster said, there’s only been 1 FCS team knock off a ranked FBS team. Montana beat Washington. I’m saying this respectfully but our guys know how to play football. The gap between starters I don’t think is as wide as you think. The gap on backups might be. That’s a given.

The reasoning for our optimism is warranted. The reasoning for your thinking it’s a slam dunk is warranted. I just think obviously this game means more to USD than Iowa State, and I earnestly believe the Cyclones won’t be jacked up like they will for Iowa. When guys aren’t 100% mentally into it, that’s when fumbles, interceptions, etc can mentally affect you.

I’ll end it this way. If Iowa State plays their best and we play our best, then 41-10 could happen. Two things. I just don’t think the Cyclones will play their best number one. Number two is Coach Campbell will not bury the Coyotes. He’s got bigger fish to fry then USD.

I’m just looking for what I hope is a competitive game.

99 out of 100 games I’d say Go Clones. Saturday I’ll be saying Go YOTES. But with zero disrespect to Iowa State

Bouman is a better, more consistent passer than Johnson will ever be. He also isn't going to panic or pout when things go poorly.

If we give him all day to throw, sure he could hurt us, but I think our DL is going to do well as well as our blitz packages. Bouman is not really mobile at all

IDK Johnson had some big-time throws on the run, in particular the quick strike score to cut the deficit back to 24-21.

This might be a hard question to answer with the new staff and starters, but do the Yotes typically use the same game plan when playing FBS opponents as FCS opponents?

Yeah, you’re right. Hard to answer. We have a new DC and OC. I’m not sure what their game plan will be. Last year I felt like we weren’t consistent in the play calling. I know our OC and my guess would be play conservative as hell letting Bouman audible out if he thinks he sees something. I look for us trying to establish the run. Saying that, I think the Cyclone D-line is damn good. So getting a running game started might be tough.

Also just to correct your comment on the USD forum, nobody in the ISU facility is overlooking USD. This is not viewed as a trap game, but rather a really good FCS opponent
