This might be a dumb question, but does FCS prey on D2 and D3 the same way FBS preys on FCS with the portal and such?

I was talking more about poaching playersMaybe not D2 but I think USD is playing Drake.
Drake is playing Upper Iowa on Thursday, so every level is doing it.
USD has a player from Grand View on their team. I think they do, but scouting on FCS budgets would be brutal. My theory is that poorly resourced teams are even worse off than before the portal because scouting resources become more heavily utilized. You are now trying to find 30+ quality players per cycle instead of 20+.I was talking more about poaching players
Bouman is a better, more consistent passer than Johnson will ever be. He also isn't going to panic or pout when things go poorly.
This will be the first game we actually get to see our pass rush. I'm excited to see it. The threat of Johnson running neutered our pass rush.Bouman had 23 rushing attempts last year (13 were sacks) for -57 yards and only one double digit carry (12 yards). Giving up just 13 sacks in 14 games is impressive, but I think we are gonna be bringing heat because Bouman is not a mobile QB. We would have to be cautious with the blitzes though, as Bouman is one of those guys that will pick you apart if he has enough time in the pocket. He completed over 68% of his passes last season.
Not really. The MVFC and Big Sky poach the hell out of every other FCS league though.I was talking more about poaching players
I don't disagree, everyone drools over the potential of Johnson. Johnson is still potential though in my view. Bouman is pretty much finished for what you will get. And he can't run, but can pick you apart with the pass. I was just pointing out that anyone who expects Avery's hit or miss passing will have a surprise coming. While you're probably right, literally no one in the country would pick Bouman over Johnson. Well, maybe the pros, but no one in college. That's because in CFB, the QB run game opens everything up.
We're talking about a guy who couldn't beat out Hunter Dekkers. With probably a mid level B12 RB and bottom of the B12 level OL and WRs. I'm just not all that worried.
I kinda get the confidence of NDSU. They have had a ton of success against FBS. Even last year they almost won at 10 win Colorado and looked like the better team for the most part. It's every FBS team they face. NDSU was convinced they were going to roll out and beat Oregon before COVID canceled that game. They were sure they were going to roll Colorado last year.
It's the weirdest, most insular, delusional echo chamber fan base their is.
The Yotes was hit hard in the portal this spring.USD has a player from Grand View on their team. I think they do, but scouting on FCS budgets would be brutal. If I'm right, the richer FCS schools should pull away even further. Problem for them is that even the worst P4 scouting departments will scout the FCS powerhouses, so that might increase their churn.

Agreed there. Even with all the losses, it’s still a very quality FCS program. Not a SEMO situation at all. I’m sure they still have depth waiting in the wings. This is exact vibe I get as well. The staff and team know they will have to play well to win. This isn't SEMO from 2022. Iowa State will get USD best shot.
My question to you would be what makes you confident this will be a good game when last year, South Dakota struggled and lost by two scores to one of the worst teams in the Big 10? Wisconsin had a big game next week at home against Alabama so it was also a “trap game” for them.
My gut feel is I think we have a competitive team. Last years game at Wisconsin I don’t believe to be a fair comparison. Yes, they had Alabama the following week, but they didn’t have a tiring trip to Ireland the week before. My question to you would be what makes you confident this will be a good game when last year, South Dakota struggled and lost by two scores to one of the worst teams in the Big 10? I don’t think it’ll be a piss pounding fwiw. I think it’ll be close going into half. Late in the second half Iowa State is covering but maybe South Dakota scores to back door it.My gut feel is I think we have a competitive team. Last years game at Wisconsin I don’t believe to be a fair comparison. Yes, they had Alabama the following week, but they didn’t have a tiring trip to Ireland the week before.
I’ll probably eat crow, but my gut says it’s closer than you think. If Iowa State piss pounds South Dakota then I’m telling you iowa state is for real. USD lost a lot of players in the portal but picked up as many coming in. If the chemistry is there, and I think it is, I think it’s gonna be a competitive game.
LOL good ole LakeBison, was certainly wrongPretty respectful
Week 1 @ Iowa St |
We’ve waited long enough. The calendar says August and we play football this month. The boys are in camp and I’m locked in. Getting the game thread started. We’ll get an early look at ISU in wusdcoyotesports.proboards.com
I'll agree with competive, but I'm believing in the Cyclones. My gut feel is I think we have a competitive team. Last years game at Wisconsin I don’t believe to be a fair comparison. Yes, they had Alabama the following week, but they didn’t have a tiring trip to Ireland the week before.

I’m the one that made that post on our board and I’ll stand by it. I should’ve added I can see it going 35-10 also. I just don’t think so and here’s why. I do think it’s a trap game for you and you’d be nuts to think different. That’s not a slight against Iowa State, it’s just reality. Hell, I’m a huge Cyclone fan and this will be the first time I’ve ever cheered against them, but I played at USD and proud of our ascension in the FCS ranks. We may get humbled quick, I don’t know, but that’s why they play the game.
Maybe one way to look at it is how the SEC and Big 10 view the Big 12. They think the gap is much wider than it really is. That’s a little like we feel. I think the majority of the fans revert back to yesteryear when games like this were automatic. And like one poster said, there’s only been 1 FCS team knock off a ranked FBS team. Montana beat Washington. I’m saying this respectfully but our guys know how to play football. The gap between starters I don’t think is as wide as you think. The gap on backups might be. That’s a given.
The reasoning for our optimism is warranted. The reasoning for your thinking it’s a slam dunk is warranted. I just think obviously this game means more to USD than Iowa State, and I earnestly believe the Cyclones won’t be jacked up like they will for Iowa. When guys aren’t 100% mentally into it, that’s when fumbles, interceptions, etc can mentally affect you.
I’ll end it this way. If Iowa State plays their best and we play our best, then 41-10 could happen. Two things. I just don’t think the Cyclones will play their best number one. Number two is Coach Campbell will not bury the Coyotes. He’s got bigger fish to fry then USD.
I’m just looking for what I hope is a competitive game.
99 out of 100 games I’d say Go Clones. Saturday I’ll be saying Go YOTES. But with zero disrespect to Iowa State
