ISU vs. K State Game Thoughts

Pardon me for not overcoming my Pavlovian response. When Sama comes in I've learned to expect bad things to happen.

I don’t really disagree. Maybe not “bad” things, but ball security is a concern, pass protection is a concern, field vision is a concern. Of course, the upside is that he can bust a long one. And, Hansen is kind of injury prone. We absolutely need someone to take some of those carries. I wonder if the distribution of carries would have been different if Peppers was healthy. That all said, I could see Abu breaking off some long runs against SD and their depleted defense.

Only watched highlights but believes the linebackers were out of position completely. Arm chair is strong with this one!

Yes, on the bigger/chunk plays it looks like that and I didn't say 'completely'.

I watched the whole game when it was on...highlights are on YT and those bigger plays are what's on there.

Just saying **** without thinking about context is strong with you this morning.

A, you only said you watched the highlights, and B, you said out of position laterally and distance. That is literally the only two places you can be out of position. C, you didn’t say chunk plays either. So, maybe keep that energy back on your self. But maybe you were a defensive coordinator and know everything about linebacker positioning…..

Thanks for analyzing my post and jumping on the 'just say some ****' train that is CF.

I don't know everything and won't claim that. But I'm guessing an outside LB isn't supposed to stay inside in a preventish/soft coverage type of situation vs getting out to the flats.

Looked like pretty typical first game type of stuff.

810 am radio from KC, just said more ISU/KSU fans were at this game than either of the two in Arrowhead. I find that hard to believe, but possible.

But you didn’t say any of what you responded after me responding to you. All you said was watched highlights and they looked out of position both laterally and distance. That is completely out of position. Didn’t mention just the chunk plays, either. So either you needed to explain yourself in the original post better, or you need to realize your post sounded a bit ridiculous. Don’t start the day off being defensive, it isn’t good for you.

I know several people who went to the game that may have went to 1-2 games in the US their whole lives.

Just got to the Brezina call. Absolutely no idea how coming up to try to time the snap becomes a penalty on him.

Was that the penalty? I read ISU was penalized because a D player “faked” an injury. There is a new rule to penalize any D that has a player go down at a suspicious point.

Lazy. The total attendance was more, but no way the "just ISU/KSU fans" total was higher.

Two new and separate rules:
(1) Defense making disconcerting action/signal -- this was ISU's only penalty
(2) Player injured after ball is spotted -- costs a timeout; if out of timeouts, then a penalty

Both of those calls were a little iffy, but they will be points of emphasis until it goes against a brand name in a key situation.

-----------
Any player within one yard of the line of scrimmage (stationary or not) may not make quick and abrupt or exaggerated actions that simulate action at the snap and are not part of normal defensive player movement in an obvious attempt to make the offense foul (false start).(A.R.7-1-5-IV).

No player shall use words or signals that disconcert opponents when they are preparing to put the ball in play.No player may call defensive signals that simulate the sound or cadence of, or otherwise interfere with, offensive starting signals. The terms “move” and “stem” are reserved for defensive cadence and may not be used by the offense. The offense may use a “clap” as a starting signal and this signal may not be used by the defense (A.R.7-1-5-V).

In the event of an injured player(s):
An official will declare a timeout and the player(s) must leave the game. That player must remain out of the game for at least one down, even if that team is granted a team timeout. When in question, officials will take a timeout for an injured player. If a player presents as injured after the ball is spotted by officials, that team will be charged a Team Timeout or a delay penalty if all timeouts have been used (A.R.3-3-6 X-XII)

We lost a TO when Brezina was hurt. The penalty was supposed to be Brezina initiating motion (bailing out) too close to the snap.

Oh yea, that was loss of TO. Penalty was different. LOL. Many pints clouded my memory.

I haven't read this whole thread, so don't have the entire context here, but I will say this. I was extremely critical of the LB core over the last several years in the 'prove it' thread. And I must say that they certainly did 'prove it' to me. That was the best our LB's have looked since Rose was here and not by just a little. They were flying to the ball, filling gaps and just playing with a ton of energy and toughness. Haven't analyzed every single play, so there may have been a couple times they were out of position as you say, but they were in the right place at the right time way more often than I have seen in a long time.

Part was the safeties (especially Neal) helping with heavy run support. We also are playing our 1 and 2 string backers instead of 4+. The first 2 groups are much faster than what we had last year.

One thing I found crazy was that stadium only holds 50,000+. Huge structure.

But perfect size for a game like that. It was a near sellout.

Did anyone go by their main stadium that holds 84,000 for soccer?
