Hines predictions for each game

Why does everyone seem to hate travis? If you don't like his articles don't read them. What's the point of ****-talking some guy that you've never met's career outlook and life choices on a forum
Because Travis constantly writes hit pieces on ISU's athletic department and coach's. Is it too much to ask for to have just one writer on the beat of ISU to actually like ISU? I still remember him going after the men's soccer coach even after Pollard dismissed his whole article and gave him contract extension lol.

Seems to me Hines has a little more old-timey, skeptical-of-the-company-line, looking-for-the-real-story attitude. Not a bad thing in a capital-j Journalist! When juxtaposed with his Hawkeye counterpart who seems to be more of a capital-f Fanboy, it leaves some of our fans pretty sour.

My caveat is that from some limited experience working with him, he was perfectly nice and professional. Fans who take his work personally are just looking for reasons to be upset. Couldn't agree more with the bolded... vote with your wallet screentime, people.

Happy Birthday, Gunner!

Just for the record, Hines went to Wisconsin, which might explain his last-call Big Ten Goggles.
I should have stopped reading when I saw he had the Red Wolves game a 4 point squeaker.

I actually prefer having somebody covering ISU with a jaundiced eye over a fanboy like Chad.

anyone know if Hines wants to put money where his mouth is on this score prediction?

Because I would jump all over beating that prediction. I get it is on the road, but ISU beat them 52-7 in Jack Trice Stadium.

I don't believe Centennial Bank Stadium or Jonesboro, AR is going to strike fear into the hearts of ISU to the point of a 41 point swing from last season.

Last year Hines predicted we'd lose to Iowa, West Virginia, and Utah, and we'd beat KU. My dog (if I had one) is more accurate than him.
To be fair, he was far from alone in getting the Big 12 all wrong...

I accidentally started a CycloneInsider pod on YouTube other day. My first thought was, “My gosh, I remember when Hines was a kid!”

My second thought was, “That guy with him looks like a kid!”

My third thought, when Hines finally let the kid open his mouth was, “Hey, the teenager really knows his stuff!”

Dtill don’t have a clue what his name was.

I'm going to provide a breakdown of the one score games we won and lost last year because there are a lot of people saying these one score games should even out and we will likely lose a few of them.

Iowa (20-19) - We did everything possible to give that game away in the first half. That game should have been a two score win the way these guys played in the second half.

UCF (38-35) - Another game where we did everything possible to lose. The defense was not ready to go in the first half. A boneheaded pick 6 thrown by Rocco and we would've won that game comfortably.

Texas Tech (22-23) - Burkle's fumble was a bummer and this team didn't stay strong enough on defense at the end of the game.

Utah (31-28) - I don't think I need to say a ton on this. The team did everything possible to lose to a mid Utah team. This one should have been a big win, but we did everything to lose and still came out ahead.

K-State (29-21) - We were ahead the entire game. This shouldn't be tossed up as a game where the one score wins will "even out".

Miami (42-41) - I do think Miami would have won this game if Cam Ward stayed in, but we fought back and eeked one out.

Despite all of the one score wins, the common theme in losses is turnovers. Those issues obviously need to be fixed. The only games where we flat out got our butts kicked were Kansas and Arizona State. I like Rocco a lot and every discussion I've had with friends is that he's a very good quarterback, not as talented as Purdy was, but he gets the edge over him in terms of leadership. To me, Rocco is one of the best leaders out there that always gives every single bit possible to lead heroic comebacks and come through when it matters. With Rocco maturing another year, I'm excited to see him step up even more and think this could be a great season.
I don't know how you start throwing out ISU's 15 turnovers on the season while ignoring that ISU benefitted on 24 opponent turnovers.

Heaven forbid that I momentarily go off topic…

I feel like this statement is made through the lens of Brock’s NFL success, where at his best he’s had a better OL, and a deeper, more talented receiving corps that he or Rocco have had thus far at ISU.

Brock’s advantages were that he had Hakeem rampaging through defenses one year, and a reliable set of seasoned tight ends that Rocco hasn’t experienced for a full season…yet.

That may be about to change. Especially if Rocco returns for ‘26.

A little weird Hines is taking so much heat here for the Arkansas State score prediction when on pretty much every single podcast CW has been talking about how scared of that game he is. FWIW I disagree with them.

Hines' projections are realistic and has us over the Vegas O/U. If you think he's hating, you're soft.

Well, you see all of the turnover we got were deserved and the ones our opponents' got were flukey. :p

Rocco could really clean up his turnovers, he accounted for 3 of our 5 fumbles and 12 of our 15 TO.

Hell, even if he is competent, I don’t think the above is out of the question.
Well , Hassel agrees with you on the Wisky game I see. He’s no Chadster apparently. Hope you’re right.

Idk I just think Wisconsin will be better than last year and it’s at Camp Randall

KU lost almost everyone on both sides of the ball. Last season was supposed to be their big year. Personally, I'm glad to see all of their receivers are gone. They've had our number the last two seasons, and I don't think that's all scheme. They've had size, speed, and experience on that side of the ball under Leipold, but they basically just have Daniels and the backup RB (who's solid) back. We should win that at home.

As an Iowa State journalism graduate and former sports reporter, I just have to say there's a difference between reporter and columnist.

Hines and Hawkeye Chad are columnists.
I thought Chad was the beat reporter. I could be wrong, I rarely read the DMR anymore.

All I know-when they show shots of Hines covering Cyclones pressers- he always looks very happy. Almost giddy.
