Hines predictions for each game

LOL what??

You’re the one who called me an “abused dog” for predicting ISU football would win 8 games. Casually tossing that around as a message board insult doesn’t seem very compassionate.
I apologize. I didn’t understand that you struggled so badly with reading comprehension.

I agree. Also, I don’t think anything is worse than a toss up this year.

This is also a good point. I don’t see any games on the schedule where I’m like “that’s a likely loss.” Usually there’s 1 or 2.

Then again, we thought @utah was the sure loss last year before the season. So who knows.

You didn’t post this?

I swear, some of you are like that abused dog you adopt from the shelter. Afraid to have any real hope. One hand forever on your Cardinal and Gold nut cups.

I’m bowing out of today’s “old man yells at the computer” session.

We almost did lose that game lol just not the way we thought it would go down.

What are you talking about? That was never in doubt

I do think all those game winning drives Rocco led us on will pay dividends this year. Dudes a winner.

I do like bringing ASU up to Ames in November.

My hope is we’re both at like 1 loss or something and highly ranked, and it’s a prime time game.

I hope so, too. We'll have some competition for prime time that weekend, though!

#2 Penn State @ #3 Ohio State
#5 Georgia @ #15 Florida
#10 Miami @ #16 SMU
#13 South Carolina @ #21 Ole Miss
#23 Texas Tech @ #17 Kansas State
#18 Oklahoma @ #24 Tennessee

Those rankings will change by then, of course, but that is a great weekend of CFB on paper.

Yeah stiff enough competition that it’ll be tough to get the plum TV slot.

Just give me the night November game for the ASU team. Even if we get Tim Brando butchering Konrardy’s name.

Chad picked Iowa to go 10-2. He thinks they could go 11-1.

I harp on it all the time but it is ******** that the Register has a fan covering Iowa and we have Hines who thinks he is too good to cover sports.
General rule of thumb for Iowa "journalists"... take the O/U for the season and add a minimum of two wins

Basically said "I just don't think Iowa State wins the Cyhawk, although they have the better team"

Travis Hines hates the Cyclones.
I think he actually likes and roots for the basketball program. He's a lot more positive there. But yeah, he seems almost resentful when football is good.

I think an overlooked weakness of Iowa's offense is their wide receiver play. Yeah, their QB's have been really bad recently, but their WR talent is probably bottom 2-3 teams in the Big 10 over the last 5-6 years. They always have a good tight end or two, but the wide receivers have not helped their passing game at all. If their wide receiver play doesn't improve, I don't care who they have at QB. (Caveat here - Charlie Jones might disprove everything I said. Maybe their WR are fine and the QB's are just that bad?)

I don't think it's a coincidence that Iowa State's improved QB play went hand in hand with arguably 5 of the best WR in school history. Lazard, Butler, Noel, Hutchinson, Higgins were all a huge step up from anyone we saw since the Todd Blythe era.

In the Rhoads era, I thought Arnaud and Richardson were actually pretty good QBs, but our WR talent was lacking big time compared to what we've had in the Campbell era.

Albany - W
@ ISU - L
UMASS - W
@ Rutgers - W
Indiana - W
@ Wisconsin - L
Penn State - L
Minnesota - W
Oregon - L
@ USC - L
Michigan State - W
@ Nebraska - L

Hell, even if he is competent, I don’t think the above is out of the question.
Wisconsin is going to be epically bad. If they lose that game Kurt will be feeling the heat.

This point is curious to me because they had 5 one score games last year, but 2 of those games were one score because of a Rocco pick 6, and the KU game may have gone differently without a pick 6 as well. If both the record in 1 score games, and the amount of pick 6's regress to the mean, will this year really be that different than last year?

Maybe ive had too much kool aid and am much too optimistic
If RB continues to be lousy throwing into the flat (I.e pick sixes) we are likely looking at 6-7 wins. Knowing this has been a point of coaching in the off season…8-9 is likely.

I'm going to provide a breakdown of the one score games we won and lost last year because there are a lot of people saying these one score games should even out and we will likely lose a few of them.

Iowa (20-19) - We did everything possible to give that game away in the first half. That game should have been a two score win the way these guys played in the second half.

UCF (38-35) - Another game where we did everything possible to lose. The defense was not ready to go in the first half. A boneheaded pick 6 thrown by Rocco and we would've won that game comfortably.

Texas Tech (22-23) - Burkle's fumble was a bummer and this team didn't stay strong enough on defense at the end of the game.

Utah (31-28) - I don't think I need to say a ton on this. The team did everything possible to lose to a mid Utah team. This one should have been a big win, but we did everything to lose and still came out ahead.

K-State (29-21) - We were ahead the entire game. This shouldn't be tossed up as a game where the one score wins will "even out".

Miami (42-41) - I do think Miami would have won this game if Cam Ward stayed in, but we fought back and eeked one out.

Despite all of the one score wins, the common theme in losses is turnovers. Those issues obviously need to be fixed. The only games where we flat out got our butts kicked were Kansas and Arizona State. I like Rocco a lot and every discussion I've had with friends is that he's a very good quarterback, not as talented as Purdy was, but he gets the edge over him in terms of leadership. To me, Rocco is one of the best leaders out there that always gives every single bit possible to lead heroic comebacks and come through when it matters. With Rocco maturing another year, I'm excited to see him step up even more and think this could be a great season.

Every week that Hines is still at the DMR is a good week. Dude is just rotting. Probably thought he’d be on the Bucks beat for the MJS 10 years ago.

Seems like he thought his Pollard/Hoiberg “bombshell” article would be what launched him to something bigger and better.

That was 10 years ago…

Why does everyone seem to hate travis? If you don't like his articles don't read them. What's the point of ****-talking some guy that you've never met's career outlook and life choices on a forum
