The other part of that equation is both Happ & Suzuki are FA's after the 26 season.

So even if the Cubs re-sign Tucker, I feel the Cubs need to carve out a role for Alcantara or Caissie on the 2026 roster.

Heck, as little as Brujan and Berti have played the last month, maybe it's time to bring Alcantara or Caissie up after trade deadline to supplant them on the roster. If not one of those 2, the best bat at Iowa for a late inning PH with some slug. Turner's bat has shown some life, but still not much slug.

It is painful to watch Swanson with runners on with less than 2 outs. It is either strike out or double play.

Not the best game for Cub hitters. But looking for positives, Horton was Skenes equal today. I like that he was efficient in his pitches today- throwing 76 in 5.2 innings.

But there were a couple coaching moves I would question:

1. Happ getting thrown out at home on Tucker's double in the 5th. I am OK with 3rd base coach being aggressive on outfielder throws to cut down a runner at home. But it appeared Happ was just rounding 3rd when Kiner was prepping to catch the cut-off throw. IMO most shortstops are pretty accurate to home at that distance.
2. It's a nit, but throwing Palencia in the 9th. I understand Pomeranz has been solid. And his strike-out rate is similar to Palencia. But in extra innings with a runner starting on 2nd, I'd personally prefer Palencia's fastball at 100mph. Also might be tougher to bunt on. Just switch- Pomerantz in 9th and Palencia in 10th (if there was one).

Cubs need to do better situational hitting. Happ’s ground ball to 3rd was the killer in the extra inning. We were lucky to tie the game at 1 as Swanson once again did horrible job with runners on second and third.
