For what it is worth, My sources align with what he and Frak are saying.

Keyshon’s dad was overly involved and not in a good way.

Doesn’t contradict anything TJ said…

"With Keshon, we decided that he needs to focus on his rehab and getting his body back right, so he won't be available as we move forward," Otzelberger said. "He's just got to focus on him getting back healthy and getting back to being him."

He’s battled an injury. And “they” - whoever that is - decided he needs to get right.

College athletic departments don’t necessarily have an athlete’s future health in mind when it comes to injuries. That was my experience as well as my sister’s when we were both college athletes. Ask any former athlete you know and I bet 50% or more will say they felt rushed back sooner than they were ready for.

Plus a lingering injury can impact your mental health so I understand a dad saying he wanted his son to get right - if that actually happened. Rumors may be for financial reason but we don’t know that. It could be because he’s worried about his kid’s physical or mental health.

the coaches only need you for a few months, so I can definitely see that happening.

Sounds about right. We'll be lucky to make it out of Milwaukee with 2nd best team in school history all because of some overbearing parent.
Meh welcome to the USA culture, TJ needs to navigate a lot. It ultimately falls on him to manage it all. TJ played him at times when he probably should have sat him, but we were short on depth with other injuries. Plus financials are a huge part of everyone's life.

There is no reply from the OP on KG, so he has nothing besides a drive by statement with no reason expect to disparage KG.

summary was Pete feels Key did what college football guys are doing and opted out of the ncaa tourney. He also asked “for what? A little money in the G league? He’s not going to be playing in the NBA is he?” He said that he is missing the best part of basketball that is March madness and CW said this may taint fans memory of him.
Hope that helps.
This reinforces my decision to not listen. To just flat out assume that a guy who has been injured for months is "just sitting out" is terrible journalism. But I shouldn't be surprised.

The subtext for people who are mad at Keshon is that he is healthy enough to play and is choosing not to for reasons not explained.

I've watched him the past two months and i don't think he's healthy enough to contribute, so for me it's not a huge thing. I just don't know what people have been watching or seeing to think he's ready to go, but won't.

As far as Petersen and Williams making a thing about KG being evasive to questioning about his health in recent weeks as a major bullet point to their insinuation he's opted out, keep in mind that evasiveness may have come from his own coaches who didn't want him speaking openly before the seeding for the tournament was announced. They seem to want to give TJ credit for this, without acknowledging that framing Keshon's responses to the press when asked about it would be job #1 there.

Keshon never did anything publicly for people to claim he's a quitter in his time here. Actually plenty to the opposite. If people have evidence he's ready to play but refuses to, it's time to show that, or forget about it.

If people honestly think Gilbert is healthy enough to significantly contribute to this team right now, they need to look at his stat line from the Cincy tourney game: didn’t start; 10 minutes 1-2, 3 pts; 0 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 steals.

Not only is Gilbert clearly not okay, at this point he’s probably not okay in a way that makes him a liability on the court. It’s one thing to tough out an injury because you can contribute to the team, but if you’re not contributing, or even being a liability, or even if those minutes would be better given to another player who is capable of actually being able to perform… well, that’s probably where Gilbert is right now.

Unless you have talked with Keshon and consulted with his doctors, you have no idea if dad is overbearing or not. Truthfully, we don’t even know that dad is involved. Just that “sources” say he is. So maybe reserve judgement?
