Campustown Redevelopment

This building rehabilitation was very well done. It kept the historical character of the building while bringing it up to modern standards.
Lived on the third floor, left corner of this pic for a year. Craphole apartment but social access and Jeff’s Pizza made up for it. Sketchy AF elevator though. Glad the building got some love, it’s always had potential.

The block from Welch to Stanton is still in rough shape.

CVS site - empty
Fuzzy's / Cactus 2 site - empty
Freddy's - still open!
Smokin Oak (gone) / The Collective (gone) - now a coffee shop (Campus Brew)
High Class Glass - closed/empty
Jeff's - still open!

Good thing we’re bringing in more commercial space in CyTown! That’s what Ames needs - more empty storefronts!

The thing with Campustown is that I wish more student housing were built down there to have more of a built-in customer base within walking distance. CyTown will be serving a completely different demographic than students.

When did CVS close? That location seems like it could make a great bar where bands play.

Is parking the major issue that keeps business from being able to last on Lincoln Way in campustown? It’s hard to believe a CVS couldn’t make it. Restaurants come and go constantly, heck I even thought the kum and go convenience store was a great idea.

worked at Paddy's for a couple years in college. Having the fire dept and police presence next door was pretty handy. Both, for assisting with something already happening, or just being able to say hey, if you don't want to leave the folks next door like to help
