'People are flat-out slobs': Jamie Pollard

Some people may stay home too because of the belligerent drunks.
Are there a lot of people that were forgoing hours of cheap drinking outside the stadium only to turn into belligerent drunks once they could get expensive beer inside the stadium?

Its really getting stupid. Other than a school like BYU what major college sports teams don't sell beer at football and basketball games?

That's not bad either. I understand Jamie's stance for football but it's nice to go to a basketball game and have 1 or 2 beers. People aren't typically pregaming hours before
I drink because I like beer. Not because I like to get loaded. It's annoying but what you gonna do about it I guess?

Does beer sales actually help attendance ? Okie State, Iowa, sell beer and well, nobody still shows up.

I get that. But if you think in-stadium beers is what would cause that you aren't paying attention. Right now people are getting hammered outside the stadium, going in to watch a half, going out at half and getting more hammered, and coming back in. If people want to drink, they are going to drink. I just can't understand leaving that money on the table, and I really can't understand leaving that money on the table while publicly disparaging your fanbase.

I just think it's funny that there's a perception that it's this wholesome, family friendly atmosphere but beer in stadiums would ruin that. All while making sure parking lots are open 6 hours early so people can start drinking at 5AM.

I have no idea why this is such a big deal, but it falls in the same dumb conversation of intro music, uniforms, JTS stadium seats need painted, etc. If you want to drink in JTS, you can damn near carry a case of beer into that stadium and not get caught. OR join the Sukup area and you can have as many beers as you would like.

Some of our fans need logoff and find some hobbies or something else to ***** about.

Where would we find this logoff?

If Jamie wants to see drunken slobs, there will be plenty on Sept 6th wearing black shirts with yellow parakeets on the front in the lots at JTS

What’s funny is you guys think Jamie, an accountant, hasn’t run the numbers. Even with a small profit, say $125k (that was mentioned earlier as UNIs profit) the lost advertising and/or ticket revenue might exceed that.

Not to mentioned don’t volunteer organizations now work the food stands? You can’t have those people serving alcohol now you have to hire people to work the beer stands.

He talks about fans being drunker if they start selling alcohol and I just don’t see that happening. It would help keep fans in their seats too so the stands wouldn’t be empty for the 3rd quarter.

I do agree with him that our concessions wouldn’t be able to handle it.
Our bathrooms couldn’t handle it.

This is a weird hill for JP to die on, and it always just sounds like he's making excuses. He has absolute control of exactly how much beer is consumed inside JTS and how long the lines are by setting a price where these things are not a major issue.

It's why Solo cups of beer at Cubs games are $12.

This fan base is not going to be getting bombed on $12 beers. They're going to buy 1 or 2 and then come here and ***** about the price. But he'll have provided the service.
Jaime is not intending to die on this hill. He said it's not his decision to make as it will be up to Wintersteen and the police.

He's right. One time I got tired of fishing in filth up at the Saylorville Spillway. Fishing sucked so I went home and got garbage bags. Spent the next 2 hours cleaning up the place and ended up with like 4 bags full.

I went back a week later and it was just as bad.

And you believe that? Come on now. If he came to WW and said "we need to sell beer, like the other Iowa institutions, because we need every dollar we can get to be successful", it would be greenlit.

He’s not wrong.
I would guess I have consumed as much beer as almost anybody on this board. I do not want beer sold at football and basketball games. I go to watch the game, not to be constantly standing up to let somebody out to pee or get another beer, and then hope they do not spill it on me when they return. I drink before and after - I do not get the shakes taking an interlude for the game. I do not appreciate drunks in the stands.
