'People are flat-out slobs': Jamie Pollard

He talks about fans being drunker if they start selling alcohol and I just don’t see that happening. It would help keep fans in their seats too so the stands wouldn’t be empty for the 3rd quarter.

I do agree with him that our concessions wouldn’t be able to handle it.
Guessing that the "F-OS" wouldn't be permitted to leave/return to JTS anymore if alcohol was served at the game.. I honestly think that some fans enjoy returning to tailgate spots & make it a is part of the game Day experience. I agree that the concession areas would be even more chaotic.

Can't think of any other school that allows re-entry. Opposing fans seem bewildered when they witness ISU fans leave the game & return. Heck, depending on the opponent, I have even witnessed the opposing fans being invited to leave the game & tailgate in the parking lot.

He just needs to say "if we sell beer throughout Hilton and JTS then we'd lose the main incentive for Sukup and Johnnys"

He sounds pissed off having to answer that question over and over but it'll never stop until he has some better answers like that. He talks to the fans like we don't all regularly go to sporting events where they sell beer.

If they would just have a "round up" pricing at the Point of Sale at each station, they would do pretty well for NIL I would imagine.

The insurance alone for selling beer is insane. It would be interesting to see how much WV gets from it.

The BOR carries a blanket policy for liquor to be sold on all three campuses. It's literally already being paid for.

He could sell beer stadium wide and it would have no effect on premium seating/clubs. There are way more reasons than just beer that is drawing people to those amenities.

I have no idea why this is such a big deal, but it falls in the same dumb conversation of intro music, uniforms, JTS stadium seats need painted, etc. If you want to drink in JTS, you can damn near carry a case of beer into that stadium and not get caught. OR join the Sukup area and you can have as many beers as you would like.

Some of our fans need logoff and find some hobbies or something else to ***** about.

He’s not wrong that people are slobs. I’m not sure it matters if they are drinking or not.

Try doing a cleanup day in a public park with Cub Scouts or similar age and trying to explain why you don’t touch certain things

I think he is being extremely hyperbolic - for someone that researches so many topics related to the athletic department - I would think if these major issues were prevalent other College / Pro teams would stop selling alcohol at games. I think most reports that I have seen point to the opposite experience - also funny that he tries to pass the buck, I guarantee if JP said he wanted to sell alcohol, they could sell alcohol.
Yeah, basically every pro and minor league team and a growing number of college teams sell beer. But I'm sure they aren't making much money on it. They are simply dealing with all of the logistics challenges to provide a service the fans desire. Ha. Everything about sports is becoming a well oiled money making machine. These orgs sell it because it turns a profit that is worth the hassle. But I guess when you are a department like ISU that frequently reminds us all that they have plenty of money, then you can leave some easy bucks on the table.

I've been to places that sell beer. It's not any more of a drunken mess than normal.

A beer at Camp Randall last year tasted fantastic.
I'm not against selling or not selling beer in stadium, but alcohol in stadiums can have impact. Sit in the bleachers at Cubs game, or enjoy event in Philly, or weekly fights in NFL, etc these fights or incidents usually consist of someone that has had too much to drink. Some people can handle their booze, but fair amount over consume.

Let's also not forget 10 cent beer night....

Lots of places seem to have figured out how to do it without the event turning into a drunken riot.

The Cubs did that themselves with how they market the bleachers, Philly fans don't need beer to be complete ********. The fights at NFL games are isolated and rare, they just get blown out of proportion because everybody has a 1080p camera chilling in their pocket now.

Studies show that alcohol related arrests and police interventions go down when you sell beer in the stadium. Anecdotal, but you never see a completely bombed person staggering down the stairs to their seats at UNI anymore and it used to be a weekly occurrence.

You can get a beer and a hot dog for $10 at the knapp. Wonder how McLeod compares. @1UNI2ISU
$8 Tallboys/Seltzers and 12 oz craft beers.

UNI cleared a little over $125k last year and I'd expect that to be greatly increased this year because football, MBB, VB and Wrestling attendance were all way up.

It's free money that Jamie is choosing to not take.

The better question is why is JP soapboxing at the expense of the AD. Particularly in this era when all avenues of revenue generation need to be utilized

What a bean counter

This is a weird hill for JP to die on, and it always just sounds like he's making excuses. He has absolute control of exactly how much beer is consumed inside JTS and how long the lines are by setting a price where these things are not a major issue.

It's why Solo cups of beer at Cubs games are $12.

This fan base is not going to be getting bombed on $12 beers. They're going to buy 1 or 2 and then come here and ***** about the price. But he'll have provided the service.
