Baylor player tipping their hand

It’ll also be a 1-3-1 and they trap from time to time.
I could see 1-3-1 being somewhat effective us.

The obvious counter is baseline dribbles dives and drop offs/lobs. Also the corner 3.

The one obvious weakness our bigs may have is they don't have a lot of lift or bounce. Need Milo and Heise to be good today because they generally prefer to operate in the corner/baseline area more than our other guards do.

1-3-1 Baylor teams are generally betting they are more athletic in the paint and can out score other teams more often than not. Honestly, a decent bet for Scott Drew teams.

Edit: The 1-3-1 is notoriously hard to box out in, but it does help you get out and run. Baylor is top 5 offensively and well-below average average defensively, and pretty darn athletic. So there's that.

One of the Baylor players, Josh Ojianwuna, was interviewed yesterday about their game against ISU tomorrow.

I was pretty surprised when he openly shared that they plan to play zone against us. Not surprised they're gonna play zone (because they do that often), just surprised that he said it so openly. I'm sure Drew wasn't too happy about that.

He also talked about how he's been at Baylor 3 years now and he's tired of losing to Iowa State.

Baylor is an 8.5 point underdog, and they've played in tough environments with true road games at Gonzaga and UConn, although they lost both. They just beat Utah at home by 25, the same Utah team that recently lost to Iowa by 7 on a so-called neutral court. They shoot A LOT of 3's.

I think it's all gonna boil down to how well we handle their zone and how low we can keep their 3 point percentage, so who knows. Gun to my head, I'd say ISU wins but doesn't quite cover the spread. Wouldn't be shocked, though, if we just keep improving and spank them. Like I said, who knows.
Jefferson and Jackson in the middle provide a zone beater we haven’t had for some time.

Not saying I’m confident comes wil l roll. But like what they have going in.

Miss Lipey's car is green!

Ha in all honesty will be the first time we've had a heavy zone look this year. Jefferson so skilled I think he could cause havoc in the middle of a zone. Let Gilbert catch it in there and go to work as well.

I like Milan sitting at the free throw line where the zone is vulnerable and just sinking open midrange shots all day long.

Jefferson was my first thought. His ability to pass the ball will cause all kinds of problems

Jackson is also a sneaky-great passer from what I’ve seen. He’s ended up in the free-throw spot against the zone a few times this year, and has looked really good.

It’s probably the two best rosters in the league, they’re just coming together more slowly.

I am not worried about the zone. I am more worried about them switching from zone to man frequently and taking timeouts to mess with the game flow.

It will be a good test for the guards. Can they will their game to be played.
