Seems like would be a bit steep to me:
That's more than Soto or Betts brought.
He HAS to mean Suzuki OR Paredes otherwise that's a hard pass unless there's something else in the deal (Hader?)

Especially with Tucker only having 1 more year on his deal. So giving up those 3 players plus having to pay him a ton. No thanks. That's more than Soto or Betts brought.

I could live with that. Smith and Shaw should be our future. Shaw can pull a Sandberg play third for a year before moving to second.Gut tells me deal is going to end up being Parades, Alcantara/Caissie, and a meh pitcher for Tucker. He will be the star player we’ve been lacking, but won’t be the final answer.
I love the Workman pick, for now. We wanted a LH utility infielder bench bat and he is just that.
Have a feeling Bellinger will get traded before a possible deal for Tucker gets made. Kind of want to know what you are getting back for Bellinger before you move prospects in a Tucker deal plus you don't want a situation where the market for Bellinger softens because they know tou have to move him if Tucker is on the roster.
Not sure what I think about adding a rental play in Tucker who probably won't sign an extension and will be too expensive to sign after the season. The Cubs roster is not good enough to compete without adding some more big pieces. If Paredes is part of the deal who plays 3B? Still need a top end SP and closer and another middle of the lineup power hitter to get to that point. I hope the Cubs are going to be active but it needs to be calculated too. Don't give up a boatload for Tucker then go cheap to fill in the holes. Tucker is a guy you trade for if you are going to put a roster together that has a shot to compete.
That 300k bookkeeping screwed up on this year cost us in 2025 no way we risk getting close this year as the penalty intensifies when you repeat it.Tucker is with Excel Agency, who Taillon and Swanson both are with as well, so my guess is in obtaining Tucker, the Cubs would attempt to work an extension out so he wasn’t just a rental.
I want Bellinger in this lineup as well, but just something to think about - trading Parades and Belli saves you $35 MM. Nico makes it $46 MM.
Tucker sucks up $16 MM, meaning you’d still be opening up $30 MM on top of the $35 MM you still have space for.
$75 MM to get a 1B catcher, front line starter, 2 RPs, and possibly still a bat.
Cam Smith has played 8 games above A ball. He may very well end up a good player but we need to tap the brakes there. Paredes was always a bad fit for Wrigley and he'll rake in Houston.
I assume they believe that Shaw is ready to be the everyday guy at 3B. Not 100% sure on that but that is the only thing that makes sense here.
Not only that even if he is a 1 year rental you have to go all in and fill in the pieces of the roster to make this a competive playoff team. You lose one of your top prospects just to miss the playoffs with Tucker and he walks for essentially nothing then this is a stupid trade to make.Love the aggressiveness of getting Tucker but if it includes Cam Smith you better get an extension figured out.
Shaw at second and Smith at third would be the ideal situation for the future. Just need to find a way to keep them both. If we can somehow make Caissie the prospect we’d be sitting pretty good. Alcantara can play all three spots and be a solid 4th OF through 2026 when Happ expiresObviously it'd be ideal to sign Tucker long term, but reality is I think that's just the price you have to pay here. Smith's potential is great, but fans are also probably over valuing 32 games of minor league ball. He's a higher risk, higher reward option for Houston and that's okay. Cubs are dealing from a position of depth as they have lots of good bats in the upper levels of MiLB.
I'd imagine at 3B Shaw is probably the primary option and Workman being in the mix as well. The FA market for 3B is dire outside of Bregman and I'd say that's a near zero chance for the Cubs.
Honestly Tucker for Paredes/Smith seems like a pretty fair deal where both fanbases are going to think they got the slightly worse end of it. Tucker really is underrated. His impact offensively can transform our lineup and also won a Gold Glove in 2022. So your outfield defense will have Happ (3 straight gold gloves), PCA (he'll probably be the best defensive OF in baseball this year) and Tucker. Then Swanson/Hoerner up the middle, both gold glove winners.
I get that there is more depth in the, but Caissie is definitively the better prospect right now. Why give more prospect value away than you have too.Shaw at second and Smith at third would be the ideal situation for the future. Just need to find a way to keep them both. If we can somehow make Caissie the prospect we’d be sitting pretty good. Alcantara can play all three spots and be a solid 4th OF through 2026 when Happ expires
Because the guy we’re getting plays rf.I get that there is more depth in the, but Caissie is definitively the better prospect right now. Why give more prospect value away than you have too.
