***Official 2024 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Sounds like a deal with Carson Kelly is on the horizon, which would be good news and a nice add to pair with Amaya.

Have to imagine the Belli trade market heats up now that Soto has a deal.
I'd be shocked if Bellinger isn't a Yankee on Opening Day.

They'll trade him for an interesting prospect and salary relief. Owen Caissie is your Opening Day Right Fielder.

They aren't trading Busch especially for another OF when its obvious at this point that they are trying to clear a path for Caissie and probably Alcantara at some point to get a fair shot in Chicago. Tucker is good and a proven commodity but as long as Jed is running the show he will go for the cheaper in-house option. I think any trades involving Bellinger or Nico is going to bring back pitching or fill in a bigger need in the lineup that there is not already an in-house alternative near MLB ready.

I think going after Kyle Tucker is a no brainer, especially if you plan on getting rid of Bellinger. You can figure out Alcantara/Caissie later, whether it be they’re packaged as well for Tucker or a later deal.

I also think Busch is interchangeable with Parades in this deal. Astros looked at trading for him (Parades) at the deadline to play 1B and he would be an All Star in Minute Maid

Cubs got the 17th pick in the Draft Lottery. Damn Cardinals jumped up from like 13th to 5th.

Well the cat is out of the bag now that the Cubs have talked to Suzuki's agent about the possibility of a trade. There definitely seems to be some smoke behind the Cubs looking at trades involving Bellinger, Hoerner, and possibly Suzuki now although anything involving Suzuki if he even agrees to it is going to be very limited on what teams I'm sure.

Now if Jed has the balls to pull the trigger on any trades is yet to be seen. His track record is a little underwhelming lately when he's had the chance to move some pieces when there was a market.

Baseball should have its own cave. The money they get paid for non contact is unreal. Plus it was Americans game to start. 99% unwatchable

I'm OK with trading Suzuki. He hits fine, great even, but he's not an MLB-caliber defensive outfielder. He's a DH. Matsui was a DH and he was OK with it, not sure why Seiya is so against the idea. But if he is, then move him.

My guess is Seiya is a FA in 2 years and wants to be a FA as an OF, not a DH.

Also makes sense as to why they want to trade Belli, not just to spend elsewhere, but to make sure Seiya can carve out a bit more time next year.

If, and we know it's a big if, you're willing to extend Tucker after you trade for him, I have zero issue with making Seiya part of that trade.

Seiya, Triantos, Wicks, Birdsell?

It would appear to me that the best way to be a FA as an outfielder would be to catch routine fly balls.

I don't see any way they trade Seiya, unless they get blown away. Seems to me this is mostly posturing by the agent, but we'll see.

Trading for Kyle Tucker is a no brainer. It will take a lot but its only for a year and we saw even Soto went for a reasonable return just last year.

Also, Cubs just selected a 3B in the Rule 5 draft. Interesting.
Hmmm. Workman is an intersting player independent of other things, but adding a left handed hitting 3B via the Rule 5 draft seems like prep for a potential deal with Paredes leaving. If you get a deal done on that front, then you have a solid prospect to plan on as a platoon 3B (his splits are pretty massive in the minors, MUCH better against righties).

If not, you really lose nothing if you dont keep him on the roster and send him bag to the Tigers. Certain seems like quite a coincidental move!
