I couldn't believe the people that left Jack Trice with Iowa State down 5 points and essentially with 4 timeouts left (3 plus the 2 minute warning.) Kudos to the team for not having to waste one before crunch time.

Never leave close games early people!

Honestly I was surprised so many people stayed. But I've had it drilled into me since I was a child that you don't leave games early. Losing by 30? Stay until the bitter end. Winning by 30? Stay until the bitter end.

Here's my question though. There's a video floating out there (not Jacqueline's, which is the better video) right after the touchdown when they are playing Mr. Brightside. A couple of Iowa State fans are hightailing it out of there at that very moment. I have spent a stupid amount of time wondering about that. Why would you leave at that moment? It's not going to save you much time. And that moment is already a core Iowa State moment for me. People confuse me sometimes. I am sure I confuse them ;)

Every championship team goes through a game like this against a "weaker" opponent when they play far from their A game and have to grind out a win and UCF has a lot of talent so this was always going to be a tougher game than it looked like on paper. Schedule gets tougher so this was a good game to toughen up the Cyclones for the stretch run.

And LOL at the UCF player dropping the ball before the goal line. Why do so many players college or pro do that and even chance it? Good for Iowa State, probably saved their season, but it's just brainless.

Ive watched the final 2 minutes a few times. Thats my favorite part.

I want to see most of the 2nd half. It seems as though there were many, many times where the team was down to 3rd or 4th down and managed to extend drives.

They probably also stand in the Hilton concourse for the last 4 minutes, only to try to beat the 1,000 other people doing the exact same thing to the parking lot.

It's just so crazy to me! At that moment I was hugging a person I'd never seen before and muttering about there still being 30 seconds left. I think if my 70 year old mother (who was with me) had dropped from a heart attack at that moment, I would have figured another 5 minutes wouldn't matter.

Exactly. I understand the one-offs (cranky kid or something) but I don't think people realize how easy Iowa State has it to get out of traffic (even for a sold out football game.) Try getting out of a 80-100k+ stadium in the SEC.

I grew up in eastern Iowa going to Hawkeye games (I know, I got an education and switched) and it is miserable trying to leave the congestion in Iowa City compared to the stadium setup in Ames. We've been in traffic for SEVERAL hours to get out before there.

It doesn't save enough time vs. the benefit of seeing an amazing comeback drive in person, imho. It was a Top 5 or 10 moment in 20+ years of going to games at Jack Trice. 4 timeouts while on D...and getting the ball back with 1:30 or so is a LIFETIME in CFB. Just wouldn't feel right if I left and had to hear it on the radio, nothing against John Walters. The Godfather is the goat of course.

SIAP, but on the final TD play, I swear the left guard goes early. He clearly moves before everyone else. I'm glad it wasn't called, but has anyone else noticed that?

It's been discussed extensively on CF and someone did a frame by frame analysis. The latter shows he may have moved 0.1 seconds early, but in real-time that is the same instance. I've rewatched it and to my naked eye, it looks like he was just the one that got the best jump on the snap. Good no call.

Thanks. I couldn't determine it by rewatching the play at game speed, so I assumed it was borderline anyway. It's just that those things usually go against us...or have in the past.

Probably not the reason, but when I attended school, I was a traffic director. We got into games free, but had to be at our post at the conclusion of the game. You've never seen me run so hard.

I don’t think UCF was “daring Rocco” to run or anything. They played a LOT of man with 1 or 2 high safeties.

When you run man, underneath holes open up after a few seconds once the receivers run their routes, and Rocco took advantage. If anything, I’m surprised they didn’t adjust a bit and play more zone or spy a bit more.

Despite two pick sixes, the offense STILL had 500 yards and 38 points.

If Rocco doesn’t make the mistakes, and if we don’t just spot them 14 points… the game looks more like was expected.

That UCF corner on the 2nd Q pick-six made a great play. I think I saw that he was targeted 3 times in the game for 1 pick six and 2 PBUs.

how did it save our season? They got the ball at the 1 and scored the next play. Just as well of been a pick 6. Now, if we would of recovered the ball and got a touchback and won the game then itd be different.

I liked seeing Sama out at receiver last night.

Would be fun to see him slip out there more from the RB spot.
I thought this was Abu's best game of the year overall. We needed a good game from him with Hansen out for the second half and Jackson being largely ineffective, and he delivered.

I need someone in human psychology to do a study on how this continues to happen. It makes absolutely zero sense to me. What is the upside? And it’s happened so much the players have to have been coached in it.

Oh sorry, you're right. Strike what I said from the record lol

Regardless, I don't understand why players drop the ball when crossing the goal line so often. It just defies all logic.
