Diante improved his bech by 100lbs (yes, it was pitiful before) in the offseason. If he can do half that this offseason, he could be vastly improved. It is clear something has to be done to get more muscle on these players. As for players motivating themselves, I dont know about that. The way they look it doenst seem they have the motivation to do the extra now.
I agree; something different has to be done. When practice started last fall, GMac talked about what a great off-season they had, and how much stronger the team was, and all the weight they gained. I said then on this board that it sure didn't look like it...
Maybe they need someone to really kick ***.
I dunno if anyone noticed it, but shown on the Cyclones.com BXII Tourney video, apparently Andy Moser traveled with the team. Since he was playing one-on-one with Brackins (IIRC), I assume he has a good relationship with the players.
I seem to recall that Shaq went to LSU at something like 220 pounds--the guy was a gazelle. If GMac wants bigger and stronger guys, he needs to recruit it. The wt. room/program is not going to fix the sins.
Players may be skinny as high schoolers, but I'm sure that Mac looks at genetics. For example, there's a kid named Doug who'll be playing in the State Championship game tonight, and I doubt that anyone expects him to stay as skinny as he is.
Oddly enough, this year we were supposed to have two marquee athletes. One chizzed his teammates. The chizdiot. :sad:IMO, you have to field at least one marque athlete to be near the top in a major conference.
How do you know that? Only one guy has been here through all three years, and AT actually lost weight this offseason to get quicker. The next two in terms of seniority (and physical maturity) would be Petey and SH--and both were expected to be walkons. Brister was signed for his strength, and is gone. And I'm pretty sure that both Diante and CB are stronger than they were as freshmen, whether or not they've put on a great deal of weight--and if Diante had put on twenty pounds of muscle, how would you tell? 155 to 175?!! :yes:Genetics do play a role in it. But in Mac 3 years here he hasn't had one player that can put muscle on?
Sure, Hamilton and Lucca need to get chiseled, and Pomlee and Eikmeier need to put on a lot of muscle, but I guess we'll see how that turns out over the summer, or next fall.
I'm just rambling now, so I'll wander off and enjoy the weekend. All of you, too!
