******* Iowa Weekly Discussion Thread***

Every year the chicken littles come out pissing their pants like Iowa is some national power like Georgia. It's pathetic.
I don’t see many compliments of Iowas prowess.

Many stating the obvious that our weaknesses yesterday play into their typical strengths.

And we’re 1-7 against them. You’d be silly to be confident at this point.

They are the fake ID of college football, feasting on a soft B1G West schedule. But CMC is 1-7 against them. CMC has lost to them with some of our best teams ever. There is a good reason people have minimal confidence playing them at this point.

Hell, at this point I feel more confident lining up against Oklahoma than iowa.

I don’t have a lot of confidence of lining up against Oklahoma this year. But I’m willing to be wrong on that.

Their offense looks much better than last year which was the worst offense I have ever seen. They scored 7 points against sdsu a couple years ago for **** sake. They’ll have more success moving the ball against us than previous years but I think Rocco and the receiving core will prove to be enough for the W.

He’s 1-6 against them. We also didn’t play Iowa with our best team ever.

I agree. But at the same time, our defensive scheme is better suited to stop this type of passing offense better than their 3 TE play it in a phone booth style they’ve run before.

Things I'm looking for:
Same as last week. See if the OL and DL can progress.

For this game in particular, for ISU to be succinct and take what's there. Maybe more roll outs with Becht to get Iowa moving.

I'd guess a 20-14 type of loss with some plays left out there.

At the end of broadcast in talking about the upcoming cy-hawk game John and Eric brought up that we have played them better in Iowa City as of recent history. Hope trend can continue.
That has to be purely vibes based since the last time there was a win. Campbell's teams have played there 3 times and only scored 16 total points.

Iowa is comfortable getting 4 yards, three yards, three yards, rinse, repeat. It's boring and frustratingly effective. I actually like our offense matching up versus their defense, but we need to get more than 3 possessions a half.

I trust Heacock to adjust, but if he waits until Iowa goes up 14-3, it's going to be a frustrating game to watch. I'd like to see us take some chances early on both sides of the ball versus us letting them dictate the pace.

It's not in Campbell's wheelhouse to risk a fast 3 and out to put his defense back on the field quickly, but the defense gets just as dejected watching the offense flounder with conservative play calling and then sending them back on the field to "keep them in the game".

I just want to see us play to win from the get-go versus playing to keep it close and then win in the 4th quarter.

I can’t tell much with ISU. But, there are several members of the conference that I will go ahead and put that W in ink. I think ISU still has a decent chance of being in the conversation for the CCG regardless of how the Iowa game turns out.
I'm pretty optimistic right now despite our less-than-great showing on Saturday. Among our upcoming opponents:
  • Iowa managed ~125 yards and two field goals in an entire half against a bad FCS team
  • Houston got their doors blown off at home by UNLV
  • West Virginia looked pretty overmatched against Penn State
  • Texas Tech gave up 51 points to Abilene Christian
Win three of those four and even if we split Baylor and UCF at home, you're 6-2, I'll take it.

Clearly didn’t cause any issues yesterday, but has to feel like you’re playing with fire once he starts facing better secondaries
Yes, it's a major concern this weekend against Iowa State. Biggest reasons Iowa's won most the games in the series recently is they've not turned it over much and had a big advantage in the punting game Essentially dominating field position. The punting advantage is gone and McNamara is a lot looser with the ball. Some of the risk is welcomed going forward but I do worry in what's likely to be a close game and against as good of secondary as Iowa State's
