Want to considered a serious team?

Go in guns blazing. Throw the ball until they stop it and then keep throwing the ball. If Rocco throws 3 picks so be it. Throw the ball until Rocco’s arm falls off.

Make Cade beat you. Stack the box and trust your secondary. If Cade beats you he beats you. Tip the cap to them and move on.

I know it will happen but we can’t let this be a field possession game with low number of possessions. Push the ball every chance you get. I would rather lose this game 30-10 than 17–13.

Saw a few of their highlights…does McNamara throw off his back foot a lot?
Yes, which is why it's so important to knock him on his ass early. He is uncomfortable stepping up into the pocket, although he seemed to gain confidence in the 2nd half.

Please. No establish the run ********. We won't be able to against their front 7. Rocco needs to throw 40 times if we want to have a chance.

Last part is true. He threw over 40 times last year and ISU had a chance.

Oddly, that chance would have improved if he kept the ball and ran off the left side on the last play.

Purdy threw 35 times in 2019 and same thing: there was a chance...until there wasn't.

He threw 27 times in 2021 before being pulled in the 3rd quarter (Dekkers threw 16) but ISU had lost their collective mind.

The way to beat iowa is spread the ball all over the field. Make them chase all day the whole width and length of the field. Don't turn the ball over. Defense also has to find a couple capable guys at linebacker or they will control the game by dominating the middle of the field.

Is there anyone that doesn’t have the same feeling of inevitability about this game as we have every year? (Try to play Iowa’s game, mistakes on ST, unable to get off the field in 3rd down)

Someday maybe the coaches will figure this out. Already hearing all of the “we kept it vanilla on purpose in week 1 excuse machine running on all cylinders.

Which is how I predict it will turn out.

This is also the least confident I've been about the game in a few years, so that probably means we win ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’m not worried about the defense at all. We have heacock and Iowa won’t try to score anyway. I worry we can’t score 20 points, and that we try to win 3 to 0 like we always do.

Matt has had a good offensive game plan exactly once in this game. It’s not the 85 bears, it’s a normal college defense. We need to stop treating like the 85 bears.

I'm not on the 'ISU plays Iowa's game' train as much as some since I think much of it comes down to something like fumbling or just not executing in crucial moments.

Otherwise yeah, the ST weirdness or something else will be the difference in a 7-10 point Iowa win. Anyone with similarish talent as Iowa has to be succinct/crisp in order to beat them and that just isn't ISU's thing.

I'm the opposite. It's been years since I was confident Iowa would score enough in this game to win but I think Iowa can score in this one. Dare I say Iowa might even break 20.

So that likely means isu shuts them out .

I of course jumped on the isu +3 line.

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but given our injuries, how is the spread only Iowa -2.5???

When was that? '17?

They still lost and Iowa's defense wasn't very good.

We wouldn’t have to be so crispy if we just passed to run and spread the ball out (and not horizontally). Score first, worry about the clock/TOP later. The defense can feed off of the offense just like the offense can feed off a defense.

I guess I'm thinking more of things like 2:18 below. Small lead, backed up a bit, and Purdy slings it down the middle on 1st down. It was PI, but it was also under thrown (not a Purdy strength) and Breece Hall likely gets at least 25 on the dump off to get out of there.
