So he's never left? A Campbell appreciation.

I think in a NIL challenging world he's about as good as a leader as we could ask.
How much NIL money could she have brought in?

Campbell has his limitations, and that's likely what has kept him from actually going to a blue blood job. I truly don't think he'd succeed (at the level that's required) at a Top 15 job.

But he's perfect for ISU and all the frustration of playing like **** in September/bowl games is more than made up for by the entertainment his teams provide in October and November.

Not sure I agree with the second paragraph.

It's pretty hard to argue that he's not the best coach in school history, and any ISU fan that hasn't found his tenure to be mostly fun needs their head examined.
No I just don't think it's ok for the team to underperform early and late in the year simply because ISU is traditionally not a strong program.

I fear if Ohio State fires Ryan Day (if they lose to Michigan again??) and they pursue Matt Campbell, he will leave. I think most other jobs he will turn down, such as Florida, Arkansas, Miami, etc.

Matt Campbell is the best thing to ever happen to Iowa State football, but I also believe Iowa State football is the best thing to ever happen to Matt Campbell.

Look around the country. I don't know of any school in the nation that has as much rabid fan support for a team with an average to above average record like Iowa State does, and there are very few schools that would give Matt the kind of job security Iowa State gives him. It allows Matt to focus on what he loves most about coaching (teaching boys how to become men) instead of being obsessed with the bottom line win-loss record. It's the reason Matt has chosen to stay at Iowa State way longer than anyone reasonably expected, and it's the reason Matt could end up being a Cyclone lifer. At least I hope so.

Is that a common notion?
When someone says a certain aspect of performance is unacceptable, the implication is that if there isn't improvement, they shouldn't be in that position any longer.

Campbell could keep losing to Iowa and losing bowl games and as long as we're winning a bunch of league games, he's going to be very secure in his employment here.

It's not "ok", but it's not worth wanting a different coach. IMO.

I've just come to accept there are some things that really annoy me, that I even borderline hate, about Campbell's approach but I can suck it up while he still delivers solid conference results.

And there's the fact that by the time Pollard would be compelled to make a change, it might be too late anyway.

I don't think Ohio State is going to offer Campbell. He's not cut out for a job like that and I think everyone (including Campbell) knows that now.

Care to elaborate on the things Campbell does that really annoy you?

I love Matt Campbell...but Ohio State fans would revolt if an AD trotted him out as their next coach! I do think he could be successful there (although Ohio State's definition of success is much different than Iowa State's) but it would take a courageous AD to hire him for that job.
