Do you wash your meat?

I rinse chicken and fish and then pat them dry before seasoning, but I do nothing to beef before prep.

Maybe they didn't understand using the word "wash/clean". Like the steak just going to the grill.

But yes like the response examples, but because you just want to pat it and dry. Usually prepping like seasoning, brine, marinade, etc.

Like yesterday I did this to dry things to make a shitload kabobs, will be ready to throw it on the grill tonight.

I'd be curious to know how many disinfect their sink after washing? All that you're doing by rinsing meat is spreading around bacteria. The odds of bacteria still being alive on the exterior of meat by the time the middle gets to temp is super low.
Agreed. It’s important that your meat does not spread bacteria

You can pat meat dry with a paper towel. You are cooking the meat presumably so there's no real fear if cooked adequately. Washing it will not ruin the flavor.

In short it doesn't matter.

What is washing it supposed to accomplish? Any surface level bacteria that might be present, will be dealt with via cooking, and any pathogens that might be buried deep enough to make it through cooking aren't going to be reachable by a wash either. If people want to wash, it's their choice, but it's mostly ceremonial.

Sometimes I help prep the meat. Depends on the circumstances.

Sometimes wash meat but only use the purified water to do so. Put in a separate pan to dry a bit before rub. Then I thoroughly wash the sink with Dawn dish soap. Then thoroughly rinse sink to make sure the soap residue and anything else away completely. I also use nitrile gloves. And cook meat to proper temps. I like to assure my guests that I follow proper health practices so they do not have to worry.

Yeah washing it in the sink just gets bacteria all over your sink and probably improves your chances of sickness.

From the comments in the post it did seem that there were some cultural aspects to it. Sounded like black people typically wash meat before cooking.

Interestingly enough, washing meat is NOT a proper health practice - it's actually recommended not to. Dawn is also not an observed product for proper disinfection as it doesn't kill bacteria.

I'm not really sure what people think water without soap is going to accomplish that heating it to proper temp in a like 500 degree grill isn't going to.
