Iowa State Vs. Nebraska Game Thread

2. Although there is nothing on the record to indicate this is true, even if there were some issues, I feel JP - acting as the AD, should have required these practices stop immediately and give Morgan a chance to meet performance expectations. JP pulled the trigger way too soon and we don't do that at ISU.

You can't fire somebody on allegations that have no merit. And if you do believe this, then you would agree LE should have been fired for paying Jake $20 for meeting certain goals in practice.
and if the NCAA told JP he took care of the problem or they were taking care of it, what's he supposed to do?

I agree. This myth of lesser athletic ability dictating our style of play only goes so far.
Check out NW at Purdue tonight: NW had inferior, slower athletes at every position, but their constant movement, plus crashing the boards (11 offensive rebounds) won them the game tonight.

movement on offense is different than running fast breaks up tempo style.

NW does what Coach Mac is trying to do. Set up your offense and run a set. Except Northwestern has so many ball handlers and guys that can get to the hoop.

I'm sure the NCAA just said--"Sounds good, glad to hear you're on it! We won't bother you again."

They are always great with ISU.

Jeremy, I love CF and have from the beginning. Can't thank you enough for bringing this thing to life.

That said, you are using a double standard on these coaches. I am not going to defend WM as I supported the decision to let him go. But I am into objective measures like wins and losses. Over a three year span of time, there is simply no argument that WM did a better job for ISU than GM has done. GM will now get the benefit of the doubt and a year four while WM was shown the door.

I would agree that strictly using wins and losses, WM was better. BUT I base my opinions, and they're obviously strictly my opinions, on the character of the coach, the character of the players, the future recruiting prospects (there are some good possibilities in the pipeline), the fact that there is nothing shady going on behind the scenes and I know when I wake up each morning I won't have to worry about a news story talking about scandals at Iowa State in the MBB program.

Absolutely it all comes down to wins and losses, but a lot happens between day one and the final grading time and so far GMac is getting a much better grade from me personally on all the behind the scenes things. With handling all of those things better, I believe that he can get to a point of having consistently better W/L records than any coach before. My only concern is if his time will run out before he's achieved what I and many know he can do with how he's building things.

NW can recruit those guys but ISU can't?

If we are so terrible, name one coach that could do well here, that wants to come here? Firing Mac will set our program back even more. But Im off tired of reading the same garbage over and over and over and over. Rehashing the same crap, and how people seem to know all the answers on how to revive the basketball program. I still support JP, Gmac, and the Players. Go Cyclones! I'll be there saturday.

I've never once said to fire the guy, and it's always been my stance to give him the length of his contract.

Fair enough and thanks for the response. I've repeatedly stated that 4 years is my barometer. If we are not talking NCAA next year, I will be ready for a change.

I was going to say it's been like 30 or 40 years since NW has been to the NCAA's, but apparently they have never been there. I love to see them succeed, but I don't think we should worry about how we are doing compared to them.

Ah hell....why is Wayne Morgan even apart of this discussion?

He's gone people and for good reason. Give it the **** up.

Thanks. I may have strong opinions, but I'm in no way trying to state that my opinions are better or more right than anybody else's.

I know. That is one of the great things I've always liked about this site, you encouraged dissenting views:yes:

We HAD wins, but LE lead to WM whom lead us to the huge hole we're in now.

Chizik left us before achieving anything but ticket sales.

So yeah, we HAD wins but we're paying a big price for them now. It's not what have we done, it's what can we do and where can we go.

that's such BS. Blame Morgan for year 1... year 2 if you freaking need to. But Mac is a division 1 head coach - he needs to take credit eventually. Year 3: we have an absolute stud in CB and we completely suck. Every one of the players on the court is a "Mac guy". Man, I hope Morgan gets some credit if we win next year or the year after ... after all this is "his thing".

If Morgan had simply left and hadn't had players that would bolt, I would agree with you. However, since his players all left or otherwise didn't pan out, GMac has pretty much had to rebuild the entire program instead of just supplementing those players already here.

I want to apologize for being a little feisty tonight - dinner isn't agreeing with me and it's showing:)

Don't apologize for having opinions!

Thanks for an awesome site that can have opinions on both sides, and maybe, just maybe, some middle ground!

Everyone that played for Morgan is not the devil. If you're gonna fire thier coach, you better expect some hard feelings. Guess who's job it is to keep the **** from hitting the fan?

Mac obviously has player relationship problems. He could not convince anybody to stay after Morgan. He could not keep Mike out of trouble. He could not convince Wesley to stay. If Gilstrap isn't Willoughby incarnate, his recruiting is downright loathsome.
