It would be very hard to come in and have 3 worse years than we've had.

Heck... Give the Grinnell coach a shot?? At least it would be a high scoring offense. Cause look at football... High flying attack offense makes everything better.:jimlad:

I am in your boat. I know McD can coach. I have been following him since Wayne State where a friend was a student manager for him. He has had success everywhere he has been. I don't understand why it is taking so long at ISU.

I think he's changed since even last year. The Wesley Johnson thing changed him; I don't see him in players' faces at all anymore. It's a country club.
He said on his radio show that he has student managers log all the coaches' comments and critiques during every minute of every practice, in order for him to study later to insure than they're not more than 50% negative to the players.
Somehow I doubt that Tim Floyd worried about that...

Well yeah, I'm sure plenty of high school coaches would look at it as a step up... but tell me one name of anybody that could come in and have as much respect or hold themselves to as high of a standard and still have a chance at turning things around? Name me one guy that would legitimately be taking a step up, would have a chance to succeed where Mac apparently can't in your eyes and want to come in here.

A guy like Fran McCaffery at Siena. I don't care how respected a guy is. I just want him to win games.

I don't know if McDermott can or can't succeed at Iowa State. I don't understand why so many people just assume that a guy that finished no higher than second in the MVC is GOING to turn ISU into a yearly contender.

if anyone went to the baylor game, when AT lost the ball while dribbling w/o even being challenged by anyone. that summed up is about how his career has gone. when i c him play bball he reminds me of a kid i go to school with who is 6 9 and can't dunk

I don't understand why it is taking so long at ISU. I just think that next year is probably the make or break year at ISU. We have great basketball fans, heck many winning teams would love to have our attendance.

Maybe McD thought too highly of himself? Maybe he believed in his system, smart enough players could succeed even if they lacked Big12 athleticism? Who knows. All I know is next year his seat will be very warm. I hope he pulls us through, because I really think he could be a long term successful coach at ISU.

The thing I am most disappointed in is how ISU never seems to get up and beat a better team. Orr, Floyd, LE and even WM could all pull a rabbit out of a hat by having the team ready to play and fired up. We have yet to see that out of McD, and that troubles me more than anything.
We play too conservatively to ever beat a good team.

Nice to see you throwing our recruits under the bus a full 6 months before they step on campus.

Well done. :jimlad:

Not throwing under the bus... How many freshmen make a huge difference in year 1???

Also, Gilstrap could be great, but it's for 1 year. Nothing said was throwing anyone under the bus. Actually they were factual statements.

A guy like Fran McCaffery at Siena.

And his name would bring in what recruit that GMac hasn't already gotten? He would excite people differently how?

You can keep throwing a new guy at the job every other year but until our fans wake up and give the guy time, they're going to be sorely let down every game.

Wake up people, give the guy time to bring in the same players from one year to the next and then judge him. Some people need to find other things to do than spend their whole lives ranting on a coach that has shown ten times more class and professionalism than they could ever muster over the course of their entire life.

we should hire anthony grant the coach at VCU in his first tournament appearance he beat duke, maybe that would sway HB

You couldn't be farther off. HB has been recruited by this staff harder than any staff in the country. If McDermott were to be fired, it would eliminate the already small chance we have of landing him.

They would be stupid if I didn't sit right next to the player and hear the words come out of his mouth. Do you even watch the games. Can you not see the whole team quit every road game in the second half?? We lose by an average of 15 points every road game. Maybe if you were sitting there and heard it then you could comment but you weren't there so I would keep your "stupid" comments to yourself .

Oh, well now we're convinced.:jimlad:

Do you need a tissue?

I think you will be happy next year we have him even if for only one year.

Ok... My point... 1 year is 1 year. If Brackins leaves these 2 recruits have to make up 20 points a game and 11 rebounds or so for us to break even. Now considering we are getting outscored by 10 to 20 points a game, the existing guys need to make up that.

I hope I am happy with his 1 year. We need a second scorer with Brackins. If he leaves.... Well, we need a scorer.

By the way... The commercial with Bill dunking has me wondering if he has any years left to play??
