What is the Greatest Soundtrack Ever?

Just say a movie.
I said several. I don't think you can pick "just one".

If you made me pick? Pop music soundtrack that contained mostly original music (that came out and around the movie) would probably have to be Rocky IV. Favorite instrumental would probably be the Conan movies (love Poledouris' scores). Best compilation soundtrack is any Vietnam movie that contains the most of the Animals' "We Gotta Get Out of this Place", Hendrix's version of "All Along the Watchtower", "Fortunate Son" and "Gimme Shelter". Since those songs are so synonymous with the Vietnam War and are in a **** ton of movies I'm to lazy to look up which one is the best.

Worst soundtrack is the Bodyguard. Simply ******* brutal.

I really love the music from this movie, but if we are including instrumental scores then I'm going to change my vote to everything John Williams has done.

Westworld has a really good soundtrack for instrumental. A lot of great rock songs rewritten for piano and strings. Heart Shaped Box is amazing.

Some of my favs:
Beyond the Valley of the Dolls
Django Unchained
Magnolia

There are like six Tarantino movies I could list but Django is my favorite. Jackie Brown is great, almost a Volume II for Pulp fiction.

Cheating:
Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (just live Bowie)
Interstella 5555 (just a Daft Punk album but it’s awesome to play movie in background at a party)

Off the top of my head these would have to be in the top, they are at least the ones that stick out to me the most and I think of when I think of great soundtracks.

Maximum Overdrive
Dazed and Confused
Young Guns 2
Top Gun

Score (mostly instrumental music written for texture) or soundtrack (songs reappropriated from other sources, usually the pop music canon, and used in a film for dramatic effect)...?

For movies, somebody already snagged "O Brother", so I will go with "Holes" (which nobody has ever seen, even though it has Sigourney Weaver as a mean warden who makes incarcerated juveniles dig holes in the desert)...I'll never understand why it did not become a cult classic.
