Big 12 teams still retains some flexibility with their 3rd tier media rights, even with the expansion of ESPN+, which is unique amongst the major conferences.

Similar to Amazon (who outsources production to NBC), ESPN+ often outsources certain aspects of their broadcast to local media entities when it's convenient and available to fill the gaps with the reduced budget that comes with streaming so many games.

The Big 12 is uniquely positioned to partner with ESPN in this way due to their less restrictive media rights agreement.

What I'm hearing you say is that Cyclone Fanatic could air a halftime show on ESPN+ if they are willing to do it dirt cheap.
