Maybe you two should apologize for calling strangers pedophiles. Crazy thought, I know.

It’s pretty easy to be a decent person in some cases like this.
I didn't . Read MY post. I was critical that the original poster said it was the worst movie ever without saying why.

There’s absolutely no reason to defend suggesting that total strangers are pedophiles.

Take some personal responsibility, be an adult, and apologize.

Half the posts in the thread don’t give a reason, really don’t need to and we all like some of them. Get busy posting on every other non justified choice (half the posts) or improve as a person.

The Green Knight imo was just a terrible movie that for some reason critics loved. Just drug on and on. I don't mind watching movies where there is some kind of broader, philosophical point that the director is trying to make but that movie was boring as ****.

Why does the poster have to justify an opinion to you?

I have seen others who only posted they thought this movie or that movie was the worst without justification. Why are you so freaking obsessed with someone justifying they thought THAT movie was the worst?

Does he know the background of the financing and people involved in the movie? Could be why many people are turned off from the movie.

Yeah I tried to watch on a recent flight and kept waiting for it to improve. Rare A24 bad movie, no idea what critics were thinking.

The truth is nobody here has ever seen the worst movie ever, because the real worst movie ever was never actually watched by more than 10 people.

Just like the worst song ever wasn't by Nikelback, it's by some band you've never heard of, singing a song you've never heard of very badly.

Those aren't as fun to talk about however, so instead we just list semi popular things that we didn't really enjoy. So please spare the rest of us on these forums with the pedophile crap, it was a dumb comment to make and even dumber to defend.

He doesn't have to. Most people give some short explanation or opinion why they don't like a movie. Not obsessed whether he gives a reason or not.

Almost all the posts on the first page are just listing movies or the only explanation is that it’s the worst or bad.

When someone said Twister with no details nobody suggested they support people having homes/lives destroyed by tornadoes. I could replicate this for a few hundred that were listed without additional context.

We have a really weird thing going on in our culture with the specific thing you were programmed to react that way toward.

Then there's the added wrinkle that some unintentionally bad movies are still fun to watch and others aren't.

I could really go down these rabbit holes. The public perception of the two Dune movies really fascinates me. There's no way that one actually is some near perfect adaptation of a sci-fi classic with almost unanimous critical acclaim and the other is in "worst of all time" zone. For the "must match the book" crazies they both match the source material far better than most movie adaptions, just one slightly less than the other.

Carrey has some other films I've enjoyed, too, even if not universally acclaimed like those...

Man on the Moon
The Majestic
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

I'm going to exempt his "very Jim Carrey" 90s comedies outside of Dumb and Dumber because I'm not sure all of them would have aged well. I liked most of them as a wee lad, however.

The Cable Guy is a nice choice. It wasn't what people expected of it at the time, but it's aged well. And The Truman Show is a legitimately great film that I think everybody should enjoy.

Just not well-written.

Movies that got nothin' but "Hey, remember this other movie that was much better than this one?" are a particular peeve of mine. There are plenty of meta or self-satirizing films that I enjoy...

Scream
Deadpool
This is the End
Shaun of the Dead
and Hot Fuzz (really most Edgar Wright films)
Birdman
Blazing Saddles
(really the whole Brooks opus)

...because they're funny or make an interesting point about their genre conventions and tropes. But when a "big" film that needs to build its own universe and mythology to succeed on its deepest levels, like a Star Wars or Star Trek or The Lord of the Rings, has too many callbacks that take you out of the film and too many instances of undercutting its own mythology... then you'll never really connect with it.

I think your statement says something about the poor state of action films right now. I liked the first Star Trek reboot and Beyond as mindless action films because they weren't too derivative. But there's no reason action films can't have creative sci-fi elements, sly social satire, or memorable characters...

Mad Max tetralogy (especially Fury Road and The Road Warrior)
Indiana Jones trilogy
The Matrix (or at least the first one)
Die Hard
Speed
(and some of the other "Die Hard on a _____" films)
Heat
Aliens
First Blood
Robocop
Starship Troopers
Top Gun: Maverick
The Terminator
/ Terminator 2
North by Northwest
The French Connection
Ben-Hur
Gladiator

None of these might be great literature, but they aren't stupid or derivative/insulting to an original.

I liked Man on the Moon and thought Carey was good in it until I saw his portrayal of Kaufman side by side on a YT video. Carey over played Kaufman as constantly anxious and fidgety when Kaufman was not like that.

I'm obviously a snob in this, but I think to be truly terrible a film has to do something offensive to cinema. Low-budget gore films that weren't intended to be any good but just to show some boobs and blood splatter who never had a chance in the first place are bad but not the "worst film of all time."

Taking $200+ million dollars and setting it on fire making a cheap knockoff of A New Hope or The Wrath of Khan is so creatively bankrupt that it is an offense to cinema of that scale. So, I hate it.

:)
Well put, basically how I feel but never been able to articulate it. That's why Independence Day will always be at the top of my worst movies ever list. Partly because I think Emmerich is just flat awful in anything he touches, but mainly because you know the vision was to be this serious, sweeping epic about the end of humanity as we know it only to be saved by the nations of the world coming together and, of course, our hero Will Smith's aviation skills and at every single turn the thing gets more stupid and ridiculous.

I have fond nostalgia about the incredible hype for the movie, not the movie itself. If you were a sci-fi nerd in the 90s you were imagining the X-Files perfectly crossed with Star Wars. I'm sure it made a lot of $ but did not deliver.

Also always laugh at the ID4 acronym...I mean how was that a thing?

We called strangers pedophiles for no reason and now we're back to movies. It's actually a comparative success.

Narrator voice: Lexclone read Gonzo’s well articulated dislike of Independence Day wondering if just maybe Gonzo might have been dumped after seeing this movie; all the while appreciating Gonzo’s snazzy avatar.

You just described why I like it and other bad movies.

I'll watch the crap out of Jaws 3.

There's other actual good movies that I don't enjoy due to not liking characters or intensity/stress etc.
