That's what I was thinking of. Didn't realize it was THE LONGEST never interrupted. That's worthy keeping around unless ISU/KSU split conferences.

If its true they got ORWA for 30M, that is a hell of a discount, considering that will be split 3 ways. Mean Fox probably had some extra $$. They get the 4 schools to the Big 12 for less than 48M total to Fox.

While K-State gets on my nerves at times, I really do hope they're a protected rival in the new configuration.

Did you ever think in your lifetime you would see the demise of a national, powerhouse conference, completely dismantled in about 3 days? PAC 12 has some amazing traditions, rivalries, and a lot of national championships. It was gobbled up, and now will probably be just a memory for most people.

Kind of bittersweet, but more of a reflection of the greed and power of these universities. Money is the only thing that matters in college football, nothing else matters. Not the fans, not the alumni, not the coaches or staff, just the dollars. What an amazing turn of events, and like some have said, better to be at a crowded table, than to not be at the table at all.

This is where I’m at. The fans are the suckers here. Spend their money, time, emotion. Meanwhile, the institutions, administrators, and coaches generate generational wealth.

CY-Hawk goes back to 1894 with interuptions.

ISU/Mizzu and ISU/Neb, go back to 1896, but are currently not played.
Maybe someday they will restart, at least occasionally.

Anyone remember an article from about 4-5 years ago where they discussed the possibility of Arizona schools joining Big 12? I can’t find it.

I know a few years ago CW had a few posts on the premium board about Arizona and Colorado interested in joining the Big12.

There are many ways you can do a schedule with 16 schools, some easier than others. The easiest with a 9-game FB schedule would be 3 protected rivals, then you play everyone else once every 2 years. For BB, you would still have the 3 protected rivals, and then play everyone else once = 18 games. And yes, this would mean PODS.

Again, lots of different ways you can schedule, but the numbers don't work out well with many different combinations if you are trying for some semblance of scheduling equality. The other "easiest" way is two 8-team divisions, but that is really just two separate conferences with a "non-con" scheduling agreement. Play the other 7 in your division, then play 2 in the other division. You'd only see those teams every 4 years, only every 8 years at your place. Basketball doesn't really work well with that setup, you would only have 4 games left each year against the other 8 schools.

I think 1 protected rivalry def makes sense in these crazy huge conferences not just for history but to build passion and relationships...two is pushing it with only 9 games but I'd be in favor. Three seems like overkill and can really start to affect the schedule strength unfairly in either direction.

ACC is next up. Then the Big and Sec will eventually merge leaving behind the dead weight in those conferences

Pretty normal for new members to come in at a reduced share that escalates yearly. Maybe not at a 50% share but B1G likely figured ORWA would take whatever they were offered as long as it's more than what the PAC will pay. USC did not want other PAC schools to follow, especially Oregon. So since USC came in at a full share, this gives them some gloat but also sends the message that USC isn't going to call shots in the conference.

I remember the KU and NU rivalry dating back a really long time. Another casualty of realignment.

What constitutes 'dead weight'? And who determines that? I think the B1G is too big and that will be trouble for them, but that conference actually 'imploding' seems unlikely given the viewership. Not sure how it's going to happen, but 'dead weight' in my opinion is the bottom 20% of the conference ... at best. I wouldn't want to determine who.

Our protected rivals will probably be three of KState, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Colorado, West Virgina, Cincinnati. I’d be shocked if UCF was one.
