Last years Rothstein projected starting lineup for reference:

These national guys are always hilariously off base protecting lineups. They must spend 2 seconds looking at Barttorvik or something before writing down what they think

Williams probably would've started but Ward and Shoon starting is just a horrible "educated" guess. I understand he's doing a lot and everything but if you're going to give out your predictions of who is starting, do some damn research. Or else it looks your credibility is just shot.

Would've been right 4 out of 5 if Williams hadn blown his Achilles. Who knows, if Ward hadn't had his visa problems...

Guess I forgot Gabe started as 6th man, with Grill starting.

Rothstein's schtick is basically

Ward and Osun weren't starting together lol

This was the opening night starting lineup..

Obvious now after seeing them play. Pretty logical that Jaz would start at that position. But Rothstein's post was in May. I'm just saying he wasn't all that far off. Let's look back next July at the CF predictions of the 23-24 starting line-up. ;)

All you had to do was watch both Ward and Osun's tape from their past schools and you would've known it wouldn't make any sense to play them both at the same time. Lol

I don't even hate his hypothetical starting 5, it's the fact he has Tre King at the 3 and Milan at the 5 that is funny. If those two were flipped it wouldn't be that crazy of a prediction.

Hason Ward played three years of college basketball at VCU. You didn't need to see him play at Iowa State before realizing he wouldn't fit starting next to Osun. Especially when your twitter bio reads "College Basketball's Hungriest Insider"

Before King became eligible, wasn't Ward mostly playing the 4 alongside one of Jones or Osun at the 5? I don't remember which he played with the most, but I think he played with both of them at least some. It still probably wasn't a great starting lineup prediction, but I don't think it's as crazy as it seems at first, especially for a May prediction.

For a few possessions, Ward at the top of a zone press, Osun at the back, was kind of exciting.

Yeah you’re right he did come in sometimes during some special situation dead ball possessions. It was a long ass lineup that did result in some turnovers but I think the lineup was more defense for offense type of a situation.

Lol, you found the one site high on Gilbert. Having Nembhard that low loses pretty much all credibility.
I was never too impressed by the Creighton Nembhard. His brother at Gonzaga was a lot better and still playing in the NBA.

Dropped 30 on Baylor in the Round of 32 this year. Huge loss for Mac but Ryan will continue to thrive at Gonzaga. Andrew is a stud too and a more projectible pro at 6'5". Carving out a nice role with the Pacers.

Bart Torvik actually has game-by-game projections now --

https://www.barttorvik.com/team.php?team=Iowa+St.&year=2024

18-11 (not counting the second and third games in Orlando)
8-10 in the Big 12

Favored in every non-con game (including by 3.5 over Iowa) but the Big 12 looks uglier.

Projected as just outside the bubble right now --

This seems like a pretty good projection compared to the last few years and I'm optimistic that this team is going to grow a lot throughout the year. I like this as a starting point
