As a fellow Oregon Cyclone, I couldn’t agree more about the Beavs. There’s a lot of parallels between ISU and OSU and I see a lot of Iowa/ISU in the OSU/Oregon rivalry. I have found myself casually rooting for the Beavs, and a lot of it has to do with the ignorance and pompousness of the Oregon fan base, combined with OSU’s status as an underdog.Having lived in Oregon for 12 years, I have a soft spot in my heart for OSU. They are a perfect cultural fit for the Big 12. Football is trending up. Basketball is trending down but made the Elite 8 two years ago. They get terrible TV ratings though.
Washington State is also a great cultural fit for the conference and is a good TV draw.
Let's be honest. Whoopie Goldberg probably has a better shot at becoming the next Pope than OSU and WSU joining the Big 12, but it is a fun fantasy to think about OSU and WSU in the Big 12 while Oregon and Washington get stuck in a conference with SMU, Fresno State, and Boise State.
Obviously I’m super biased because I’d love to be able to watch ISU here in Oregon, but I think OSU would be a great cultural fit and would love to see them in the conference, assuming we can also grab some of the other bigger names like Arizona and Colorado.
