Most people got their new assessment roll in the mail today and ours went up 29.4 percent this year with no changes to the property. From talking to a few people, this is about where everyone is at.

I thought there was a cap on the percentage increase year over year but I’m not finding anything concrete. Anyone know?

If everyone's assessment went up the same, then the tax rate would drop I guess. Assuming the city's budget also doesn't increase by 29.4% that is. The problem comes when your assessed value goes up but no one else's does.

Not in Polk county but I got my appraisal a few weeks ago and it’s allegedly valued at $50k more than it was when I bought the house 15 months earlier.

We got our letter from the Polk County assessor today. We own 2 properties. One went up 21.2%. waiting to see how much the other went up.

Genuine question. Are these assessments surprising?

We’re at about 90 percent increase in value over 6 years and 29 percent this year, so yes it’s a little surprising. We have been hovering around 10-12 percent over the last few years.

Looks like our 2nd property also went up about 21%.

My rentals are up 80k from 220k, 60k from 200k, and (my favorite) 68k on a 150k house that I literally bought in Feb 2023 for 148k. The appraisal for that house came in at 160k MAX in Feb 2023 but Linn county says it is 218k. I will be contesting all three immediately.

Mine went up 25% from what we bought it for June 2021. I've already researched comps within a mile radius and have an informal review email scheduled to go out 8am Monday.
