Yeah, a lot of the F1 fans dislike of the series is the manufactured drama. I saw a Lando Norris clip from youtube, where he reacts to Drive to Survive and he commented a couple of times, "Those two clips weren't from the same race and I didn't even say that to him." They were basically manufacturing drama between Lando and Daniel. I get it though, that's what the mass viewer wants to see. I'm sure the general public, who've picked up on the series, really don't care what it takes to get the car set up and tuned in for the race.

While I haven't actually watched DTS, a lot of the reactions seem to be that it's like a lot of the other "reality" shows where they are intentionally trying to create drama and story lines that don't exist.

That said, if it helps drive the sports popularity in the US I only see that as a good thing. I mean we've now managed to get 3 races in the US.

The Vegas one is kind of a western hemisphere version of Monaco though. More about where it is, than what it is.

I know we tried this last year but I’m in a text group with some other F1 fans who are doing a fantasy league.

Here’s the link if anyone wants in:

That last line on Aston Martin / Commanders got me good, so true haha

Didn't Aston Martin test really well? Any with post testing thoughts?

  • Kind of have a chuckle about how crap McLaren looks to be this year.
  • Aston Martin tested really well right? Can't take too much from it but dang.
  • I like Max being the bad guy, but really hope Ferrari can push for the championship this year because I really lost interest after the break last year.

I thought DTS season 5 took a maturity step. It was much better paced, in a sense that when telling the story for each particular episode it was way better putting clips in proper chronological order. The manufactured drama was way less, as there was actual drama, between Merc flailing, RB cost cap breach, drivers switching teams. I felt they were trying to service the knowledgeable fans better. It wasn't perfect, but it was a better product, and over all I thought more episodes told a better story than seasons 3 and 4.

Can't wait for the season to start. Wanna know if Merc has figured it out, or not, want to know if over the season we see a Red Bull not able to advance like in the past due to penalties in the wind tunnel. I want to see if over all the new cost cap, wind tunnel regulations have the benefit of catching the back of the grid teams up.

Also, how much more rope does Zach Brown have, if the car fails this year, after all the crap he has pulled the last couple of years, Does ownership keep him around. I know he is not directly in charge of the car, but ****, they have been in the same spot for a long time. If Renault can get some results against the top three this year (not saying they can) that will have to push a ton of pressure on him.

It has really made F1 into a sport that more Americans are aware of. The hype around it is even elevated in Monaco. Too bad this didn’t happen decades ago!

McLaren is still a bit out from getting their supposed state of the art wind tunnel and simulator online, that could change their trajectory a lot, but it won't be for a season or two.

Zak is the man in charge of the business of Mclaren racing, he's brought tons of sponsors in the last handful of years, if he keeps bringing the money in he'll probably be ok. Sponsors won't stick around forever if the car doesn't perform though.

McLaren has a new owner, team principal or something, I can't remember his title. They have a really long term view and their car might be absolute trash this year. I could see them dropping to 6th or 7th. Certainly doesn't seem like Zak is the most popular guy in the paddock.

Crazy that Stroll is able to be out there so soon after his accident.
Not gonna lie, granted it was a high speed oval in CART, but after Greg Moore in 1999, it always freaks me out to hear of anyone racing with a hand ailment.

That being said, it was a pretty interesting couple of first practice sessions. It certainly would be nice if Aston Martin can keep up a pace to keep them towards the front.
