Yeah, a lot of the F1 fans dislike of the series is the manufactured drama. I saw a Lando Norris clip from youtube, where he reacts to Drive to Survive and he commented a couple of times, "Those two clips weren't from the same race and I didn't even say that to him." They were basically manufacturing drama between Lando and Daniel. I get it though, that's what the mass viewer wants to see. I'm sure the general public, who've picked up on the series, really don't care what it takes to get the car set up and tuned in for the race.
While I haven't actually watched DTS, a lot of the reactions seem to be that it's like a lot of the other "reality" shows where they are intentionally trying to create drama and story lines that don't exist.
That said, if it helps drive the sports popularity in the US I only see that as a good thing. I mean we've now managed to get 3 races in the US.
The Vegas one is kind of a western hemisphere version of Monaco though. More about where it is, than what it is.
