Hy-Vee's weirdest business decision yet?

They are spending money all over the place. Just because it isn’t to support IT and marketing departments doesn’t mean they are hurting. It’s clear people have some sort of vendetta against them. Likely because of a bad employment experience, but the truth is they continue to be doing quite well. Just because you don’t like how and where they are redirecting their spending doesn’t mean they have cash flow problems.
Yep. Wahlburgers, selling exercise equipment, and pallets of bath bombs appear to be hugely successful and popular decisions.

******* old people, the biggest babies there are.

Scan your items, put your card in and leave. It can't get much easier than that.

Go with the Walmart method.

Have one lane open for traditional check out. Only one lane. Make sure that one lane is worked by someone who couldn't be more removed or unenthusiastic about the job.

Makes the self serve seem pretty good

I think it really depends on the size of your order, and i think it comes down to bagging more than scanning. After all scanning and bagging *used* to be a 2 person job.

And honestly, the luck you get with the bags doesn't help. Sometimes they can be kind of a pain in the ass to open up, and that might be even harder for older people.

I imagine some people also don't like feeling pressure to move quickly from those behind them. When its a cashier, that's on them not the customer.

Layoffs and cutting benefits are often signs of a booming business.

Yeah, reading the hyvee subreddit, it sounds like it isn't just the discount either, but the perks+ membership and free meals for employees on weekends. Neither of those have the 'fraud' excuse.

Meanwhile they'll complain about not being able to find employees while paying low wages and slashing benefits, and probably lobby for state help with that.

I do the shopping for an 82 year old woman who doesn’t have a credit or debit card. She pays me back with a check. She has neuropathy from cancer treatment and can’t stand very long. The local Hy-Vee, only store in town, does not have drive up. They will wheel crap out for handicapped but it takes them a long time to come to the front of the store. She gives me a list for when I go to Fareway and Walmart or else buys a few things at Casey’s. I can’t shop for all of the even older people than me in town.

You guys really need to realize that 90%of the stuff I post on here is in jest.

Hy-Vee thread still going strong.
Noone witnesses the lagesse of the poverty industrial complex in action than grocery employees working their buts off and witnessing the obvious abuse of the SNAP/EBT/foodstamp programs.
Cue Bono tears.

You have kept posting about SNAP. We have noticed. Can you not cave this thread and just start up a thread about that if you're that concerned?

When I worked the hy vee in ames. They sold milk from a local dairy farm that was sold in a glass bottle. The bottle had a $2 deposit. People would use like $20 of their food stamps and dump the milk in the parking lot. They then brought the bottles back in and used the deposit refund to buy cigarettes. they soon did away with allowing the food stamps to be used to pay for the deposit on these. The parking lot smelled like death on hot days.

Someone I know and trust has seen their financials and said they have more current liabilities than current assets... That explains the need to sell long assets like they've doing recently.

MSP expansion has to be a billion dollar egg to the face.

That class was so easy I only went for the comedy, well and the extra credit and him giving you all the test answers for an easy A. I think he just wanted an audience.

What I remember from the class was he'd talk about his stock picks for about 30 minutes, make fun a few people, then a few slides about something MIS related. It was really more of a finance class about tech stocks than anything for me.
And the martinis at FAC…..

They also axed a couple of huge stores they were planning on building... I used to work for a supplier of Hy-Vee they are definitely operating like they are in debt up to their eyeballs.
