Beshears is now KU's

I've never been to it. Care to elaborate? I love good BBQ and am more than willing to go to Nevada.

It just is better. I ate at the Nevada Battles quite a bit the past 3 years, was in Ames one day so ate at the Battles there and was disapointed. It was good and I enjoyed it in college but it wasnt as good as Nevada's. It may have been a bad day, who knows. Its on old Hwy (take lincoln way to Nevada) west side of Nevada on the north side of the road, if you hit main st you went to far.

He was gone as soon as he visited. I can't remember the last verbal for us who then visited KU and didn't switch since Mangino has been there. We have to start outplaying them on the field for this to change.

Well, when they interviewed him, Mangino was sitting on him. That would certainly cause me to change my mind.

i think thats a little extreme there. we get some JUCO's who fill big time holes (Sims, Money) and we have some play makers coming in out of HS in blankenship and white. some guys who will be really solid down the road like Klein, Lichtenberg, Knott, Jackson, Broomfield. and 1 or 2 guys who can help the return game a lot like i think Reeves can..... if we can land a few guys like Akeem Spence or Dearco Nolan we will be in pretty good shape in this class.

it may not have a ton of depth, but i dont think it will be as weak as GC's first class which was very JUCO heavy

Well, I think it is pretty accurate. This will be a terrible, terrible class as a whole but with 2 or 3 really good prospects. I'll be shocked if we sign more than 20 guys. Sims is the only guy right now that is going to have an effect on next season. Martin is a project at best. Money has a lot of hype, but so did Jason Carlson and Wallace Franklin. I haven't heard any other Juco names that will help next year....we have been going after a lot of WR's for some reason though.:skeptical:

The fact is that no matter who signs next month, this class was ****ed 10 ways from Sunday the day Chizshit left. This is the 2nd disjointed class in 3 years. Very, very bad.

I've heard that KU's living quarters for athletes blows away most schools including ISU. When you think about it, you spend a lot more hours in your room during your career than in the stadium. I believe that the NCAA no longer allows special athletic dorms, but they probably find some way around it.

ISU athletes live in the brand new dorms where Clyde Williams used to be. The dining center there is also new. I don't think that ISU takes a back seat to very many programs in that area.

Now, I want to address something else that someone brouhgt up, at the risk that I might get booed off this board. Hickory Park is overrated. There, I said it. It definitely isn't as good as KC BBQ. And, after eating at both George Battles and Hickory Park several times, I would say that Hickory Park isn't even the best BBQ restaurant in Ames.

I don't think that many real BBQ fans would disagree with you. KC has the best BBQ out there. As for Ames, Battles is definitely better than Hickory Park. But what you get at HP is the variety, the atmosphere, the desserts. I don't know about other people, but I would have a hard time convincing a whole group of people to go to a BBQ-only joint. It's kind of its own animal, like Chinese or Italian. Hickory Park not only has decent BBQ, but lots of other stuff for people who don't appreciate ribs or brisket or smoked meat sandwiches. HP has a huge menu that just about anyone (even picky eaters like some in my family) can enjoy. And it's way better quality than Applebees or Chile's. Servings are huge and I've rarely seen anyone come out of that place unhappy with their order or service. Bottom line, if you are taking out of towners or a large group out to eat, you know that they'll be full and happy.

Not completely true. Freshmen men's basketball players live in Freddy. Freshmen football players live in Freddy. Freshmen women's basketball players, as well as a couple upperclassmen, live in Buchanan. Last year the soccer freshmen lived in Maple. I don't know about other sports, but I do know those...

With Bellamy and Mr. Reynolds coming, not to mention our existing players, the WR spot was going to be a bit jammed for immediate playing time. But when Beshears committed, the odds of immediate playing time was much greater. My guess, he looked at KU's roster and recent success no doubt and figured it was a better place in terms of playing time and success. That said, he would have been an immediate upgrade imo for special teams and will be at KU as well - he will be the KU punt returner this year. IMO the loss of DJ from last year was much more significant then the loss of this years DJ - the one position we could stand to lose a recruit was WR. But i really like his chances of success here under Herm-dog....one more schollie for some Defensive players - thats where we need to bring in talent and depth and the OL!!!!!

He's not big enough for WR. KU already got commitments from a 6-4 and a 6-5 WR, this guy is going to play in the slot or he could possibly end up a nickel corner. Most likely he ends up redshirting and plays one of those positions 2 or 3 years from now

I would suspect it's another case of ISU identifying a good talent, and another program taking advantage of our hard work. Plus, aside from a new staff here, the kid has to like the fact that KU is already winning.

As far as PT, at the moment I'd still consider Bellamy at best a soft verbal, but as some people have noted, the slot in a spread appears to be Beshears' best positions, which offers two complementary observations: A. Josh Lez' best position also appears to be the slot (which beshears probably didn't care about), and B. Darius Darks appears to own the slot (which Beshears probably did--considering DD is only a year ahead).

Of course, being just a high school kid, he probably didn't factor in that by switching he'd be taking hits from Leonard Johnson for three years, either. A fact that should be an important consideration for any wideout considering the Big XII. :yes::wink::biggrin:

The blurb in the Lawrence paper this morning makes it sound like he de-committed from ISU as soon as Chizik left.

"Beshears originally had committed to Iowa State, but withdrew the commitment when coach Gene Chizik left for Auburn. Beshears chose KU over Arizona and TCU."

That and win/losses, proximity to KC, coaching staff (theirs has been better), scenery, etc.

Couldn't disagree more. We need WR's that can make plays. Right now we do not have a bunch of those like peopel think. We have one WR that can make anything happen after the catch. ONE!

Are you saying he would be less jammed for immediate playing time at KU? Maybe if 2010 is immediate. Next year, KU returns probably 90% of our receiving yards, including BXII honorable mention WR Kerry Meier and BXII second team Dezmon Briscoe. Beshears looks a lot like WR/CB Daymond Patterson to me, who was the starting punt returner as a freshman. Not trying to flame, just pointing that out. Most likely, he sees a successful spread offense and wants to be part of the fun. KU's new football facilities are incredible, but the athletic dorms are as dreadful as someone mentioned. They are apartment style, but haven't been updated in 40 years.
