If Lucca is a bust (and an almost complete bust, w/e the heck that is, like the thread title says) than all of you who aren't astronauts, presidents of the country, pulitzer prize and nobel peace prize winners are disappoinments to your parents.

Good to know that I succeeded. We only have to be one of those right?

WHOA GUYS! SLOW DOWN!

He said "almost complete" bust. If he's almost complete, that means he's not complete. Which means he's not a bust. Which means he's right. :mask:

I could tell from one game (in which Lucca scored 18 points and had 7 boards) that he has things to work onto improve, but it's also clear that there's more he needs to do before becoming a "complete" bust. :jimlad:

No, you have to be all...at once, and be friends with a pirate and a ninja.:jimlad:

Sidenote:

So since I'm assuming your last name isn't Gore or Obama. Which one are you?

If you really want the scoop on whop is not worth a hoot at ISU, just go to this Hawk site:

I read all the replies. They fall into one of two categories: (1) replies that attack my personally; or (2) replies that say, basically, that it is fine that he has about 5 points this year inside the 3-point line.

My point is that he could be doing so much more for us. We really need more points from the paint, and with his height and size there is absolutely no excuse that he can't score inside.

How about one that does both?

1) (Edited) and should never have started this thread.

2) Basically, its fine that he has about 5 points inside the 3 point line because he is one of the best 3 point shooters EVER to play at ISU.

The original ignorance of the thread can almost be ignored, but then you try to defend yourself? Staiger averages almost 10 points per game doing what he does best, shooting the three. We have Craig Brackins to score inside and a developing Justin Hamilton. Way to throw yourself to the lions.

I am more than a little disappointed in Lucca's performance this year. I expected more. I blame this on his total reliance on the 3-point shot. In yesterday's game at Missouri he was 2-for-6 for 3-pointers and had NO points inside the 3-point line. He really, really, really needs to develop an "inside" game. It isn't like he's really short. Nebraska, for example, has only 4 players taller than him, and they are doing better than us so far this year.

Call me psychic, but I somehow knew this would not go well for you :goofy:

I expected Lucca to play just the way he is. You had to know coming into this season that he was a 3 point specialist. Everytime McDermott or one of the coaches talked about him, they talked about how he shot 3's at a high percentage. They did not talk about his defense or his ball handling, just his ability to shoot the ball. Lucca has a good frame and he is athletic enough to improve on the other aspects of his game over the next couple of years, but for now he is a guy that can carry this team in spurts when he is on fire.

If you look at European players in general that come to the US to play b-ball, the one common theme is that they are usually pretty good shooters regardless of their size. It's a different game they learn growing up and it takes time to adapt.

Lucca, Brackins and Hamilton are 3 guys that ISU should not be concerned about. They are the 3 bright spots on this team thus far, with an occasional flash from Garrett. If ISU does not get to the NIT this year, does Brackins leave out of frustration? That would be my main concern.

Wow, he has come along nicely, and if you care to really watch his game, is working on becoming better at taking the ball to the basket. And oh yeah, he is one of our best passers, let's not forget this is his first year of major college basketball so cut the kid some slack!!

Then using the term bust is stupid if that's the point you wanted to make.

...But it's probably the perfect word if all you wanted to do was rile up people...

Because he is a freshman, and you guys hyped him up like he was the second coming of Michael Jordan.

This is spot on. Due to our lack of competitiveness each of the last three years this site has become a haven for dreaming about next year and we get all kinds of unrealistic comments about the guys coming in...last year it was Lucca and Eikmeier. This year it is Gilstrap. Frankly, I'd like us to field a team where we can live in the present instead of always having to place hope in the tired old "wait 'til next year when player X suits up for us".
