If I was Nebraska, I would make a call to former Boise/ Washington coach Chris Peterson. West coast connections for recruiting for Nebraska would be needed as USC and UCLA will be in the Big 10.

Pollard and CMC did an interview a couple years ago where Pollard stated that coaches can leave for more money, but it also brings a lot of other headaches, such as crazy fan bases and having a down year and getting fired. CMC agreed and said that quality of life and building up young men are the things that are most important to him, and money with instability and crazy people to work with cannot top that.

Campbell does not seem like the type of guy that would leave mid season or even address that topic during the season.

I think none of this talk has came from Campbell

Exactly. I think we all know he is a man of his word and greatly values integrity (remember back when he wouldn't talk to Jamie until his team played in their conf championship?) Sure, he doesn't have an agent but maybe as he gets bigger could have a friend/rep be a middle man, but i don't see it. I'm sure he HATES this is a headline on a Monday morning if he truly didn't reach out/no one talked with him.

Surprisingly, on KXNO this AM Travis and Ross actually did a good job basically saying the dude that tweeted this wasn't being fair to anyone (Huskers, their interim coach, Matt, our fans, Alberts, etc). As they said, this literally could be a staffer in NU who knows who they WANT and of course CMC will be on anyone's short list.

I remember "watching" this game on the Des Moines Register homepage news feed. I was just getting updates on each play (I did not have cable and Dubuque radio didn't air any Cyclone games. I had a hard time understanding what I was watching was real.

I doubt Campbell will address it and we shouldn't expect otherwise. I saw a bluecheck on twitter mention that Nebraska would be smart to try and go the same route of Texas Tech where you hire someone before the season is over to help recruiting. In that case you can rule out any standing head coach.

Next week the media will throw out next so and so is the front runner. They don't have sources they just want to throw out names to get attention, clicks, and follows.

Since hyperventilating & speculation is the theme: I am hearing (seriously) that big money donors are pressuring Barta to clean house. Would CMC be on Iowa’s list?

A. Barta is out with the Ferentz Clan. No way he stays more than 20 minutes past Kirk.
B. CMC isn't going there, and UI wouldn't hire an ISU coach either. Too proud for that.

I wonder if he'll ever coach again TBH.

I believe that Gary Patterson would be a great choice if he is interested in being a head coach again. He seems to be a good fit for the Nebraska culture.
I think Gary Patterson would be a slam dunk for Nebraska.

It seems like he's doing a good job at Texas right now too.

I'm prepared to eat crow, but there is a 0% chance that CMC leaves what he has at ISU to go to Nebraska. His family is very happy with their life right now and that is something money can't buy. With how things have started this season, there could be an opening again at Notre Dame within a couple of years. That's a job we should worry about losing him to. Ohio State, Notre Dame...that might be about it.
I've posted before so I'll repeat it. Campbell straight away told a current player at his official visit that the only way he'd leave ISU is for Ohio State, Notre Dame or the "right" NFL job. I translate that "right" part to a franchise with great ownership/brand like Pittsburgh, KC, NE, etc.

It's pretty tough for people to grasp...

Campbell's name is going to continue to come up in nearly every coaching search. He's highly thought of in the industry, both in college and in the pros. With our lack of historic success, small market, and presence in a second-tier conference, it's inevitable he will be talked about because most teams looking for a coach will see themselves as superior to Iowa State in a variety of ways. That doesn't necessarily mean Campbell sees it that way.

I would say the odds are against him retiring here. It's just so rare in today's world. I'm sure Campbell's got a short list of jobs he would strongly consider, just like anyone. Timing is part of an opportunity as well though. A job this year may look different than a job next year. He's a private guy and I don't think very many people truly know what his goals and aspirations are. What we DO know, is he is our coach this year and he has chosen ISU repeatedly over the past few years. We all know he could have gone other places but he didn't. Enjoy him while he's here and stop worrying about all the noise from people outside of Ames.

I can't imagine in the most bizarre set of circumstances Campbell quitting on his team. Leaving. Hoiberg yes, Campbell no
