ESPN will be desperate to sign the PAC 10 but ESPN will want a GoR. You can’t risk losing the two biggest PAC 10 names (Oregon and Washington) to the Big Ten when you have none of their content! Oregon and Washington likely won’t sign a GoR without unequal revenue sharing UNLESS ESPN really overpays.

Yep it 100% looks like they are back in. Like I said I had no new info since the Cali schools were added. My main point of that post stands that NBC wasn’t planning on putting big ten games on sundays.
I was with you on that. People misinterpreted the ‘NFL connection’ comment and it was overblown. Sunday college games was never even discussed. I don’t think NBC was ever out of it though.

ESPN as has been a horrible network partner for the Big 12.
This is bad news
If any of it is true...pretty much what I was thinking. The Big 12 ending up back with ESPN/ABC as their primary "partner" is pretty much on the worst-case-scenario side of the coin. Nothing like having a partner that tried to destroy you...

Not exactly sure.
Fox has Big ten and big 12 right now. So people think that adding one game a week will (while by the sounds of it losing two games a week to CBS and NBC, so a net negative one) will satisfy Fox's inventory? I think Fox will still very much be a player. This big number coming out will also tell streamers if they want to be serious, they need to step up. So, it may push the bar up for the streamers.

Because that would mean the media company made their bid not knowing who else was going to be in the conference, or the Big 10 has teams they are adding that they just aren’t announcing.

Both of those things make no sense.
Are the details of these bids public domain? If not, there could be incentive clauses structured according to whom they add in the future.

Agree, this is the next thing that is going to be very interesting I think. I don't see Oregon & Washington signing anything long term but maybe they would for say like 5 years or so. Not sure they will even do that though. I do think the Pac 12 is in a good spot with leveraging that 9:30 pm spot though.

These are not public because the Conference is the one negotiating and signing the contract. And because there are private schools associated with the conference, those records are private.

Agree. Do people think that Fox is going to show an 11:00 game and then nothing more the rest of the day? There's still a 2:30 and primetime slot available. Also, I'd think that CBS would want more than 1 game a week as well. Even if it were to put on Paramount+.

And I know that basketball doesn't drive this, but the Big10 leaving ESPN would hurt their basketball exposure. While OTA is great for Saturdays in the fall, they typically don't show a lot during the week for basketball. So it'll be interesting if those all fall to BTN and FS1 and whether they'll get any attention at all.

Not necessarily true. If the details of the bid were sent to any president or athletic director of a public university, that is open for a FOIA. Might take a couple tries to get it though

I don't see the streamers being able to push too far though, because I don't think they will even be in the ballpark of the ratings the networks get. We have seen the gap in viewership for a team between an ABC or Fox game versus a low tier cable network like FS1. I think the streamers will be even lower than that. The only people watching something like KSU vs TCU on Amazon are fans of those schools and maybe hard-core gamblers. Casual football fans are going to find many interesting games through more mainstream sources before they go digging that far.

Maybe I'm thinking wrong here, but if ESPN is completely shut out from Big 10 and SEC, wouldn't they try to get the best of the Pac to jump to the Big 12 so ESPN could have rights to a much stronger and larger conference?

ESPN has the SEC wrapped up.

Fox may also prefer the same thing, as they probably need more games too now.

EDIT: I didn’t notice you also said SEC. ESPN has the SEC.

CBS has only had the one SEC game, at the same time slot, they didn't really have anything else, did they? The occasional MW game, maybe.

I think your r ight, they had their national CBS broadcast of SEC games. Then CBS sports network showed Mountain West games.

CBS may want to expand their football coverage to cover the early afternoon game along with occasional prime time games. But this is me just speculating as I don't know if they want to do that and give up their other programing (What ever that other programing is on Saturdays).

And maybe that's all they want for an OTA option. But they're also trying to get Paramount+ off the ground. So maybe there's opportunity there?

I guess I'm just hoping it's something other than ESPN as their continual fleecing is only going to get worse. Gotta pay for a $60+ TV package plus the increased price of ESPN+. All while knowing that the SEC is getting a much bigger piece of that pie you're paying for. So I guess I'm just looking for other options that might be available.

I'm not sure how this really changes anything other than ESPN now being in a position to want more Big 12 games possibly. There aren't any more games to go around than there were, and if CBS and NBC are getting further in, that only opens up slots in the ESPN and Fox universes.

The only real downside I see is having a partner who's tried to harm you in the past, but that was done specifically for the sake of getting OUT into the SEC. I don't think ESPN has an irrational desire to destroy the Big 12, their previous assault was a means to that end. I think it's likely that there's the possibility of a mutually beneficial relationship between the parties, and I trust Yormark to be able to sort that out.

It also increases Fox's need for inventory. They now have 2 other entities, 3 if a streamer is involved, pulling inventory that they didn't in the past.
