Hunter Dekkers Concerns?

If there were any concerns at all, we would be hearing about a quarterback competition
I don't think that's necessarily true. Are you new to this staff? Kyle Kempt came out of left field to beat Oklahoma a few years back and the staff to this day has never really come out and said what went wrong with Jacob Park.

huh? only score 13 points, couldn't have been that great.
Clemson defense was #4 in DFEI. Iowa State was out it's 2nd Rd NFL draft pick at RB, and Downing didn't play either. It was just a weird game overall. I'll be blue in the face all day about wanting Iowa State to make and play in bowl games, but they really have lost their luster in the last 10-15 years.

For all this “o-line was bad last year” talk, they most certainly didn’t cost us the Iowa, Baylor, WVU, or Tech games. Online performs exactly as they did last year but we go 11-1 and no one is complaining about it.

The defense allowing two bad QBs to look like all Americans in the WVU and Tech games were much worse performances by a group that was supposed to be a strength, in my opinion.
It appears you are right about the WVU game. The big stat was we gave up 9/15 3rd downs. That is on the defense. However, our offense only converted 2/12. Against Tech the defense gave up 529 yards including 207 on the ground. We only had 89 yards rushing. Hall had 18 carries for only 2.8 yards per carry. I suppose we didn't run much because we were playing from behind.

That Tech game was after they fired their coach and then had a bye week to prepare something new. They also threw in a new (running) QB with no film.

The defense played poorly but they also had a big wildcard thrown at them.

That wasn't a QB competition. Kempt only started because Park self destructed.

I'm not too worried about QB, RB or DL. Since Campbell has been here we seem to find guys that get the job done.

My concerns are OL that gels game 1. And a defense that plays aggressive- forcing TO's and consistently putting pressure on QB. Can"t have mediocre QB's play like All-Big12 QB's.

I'm not sure we will ever be that attacking defense. We only rush 3 quite often.

do some of you guys come out of the woodwork on just gamedays?

it's almost like none of you follow off season and/or pre-season information that comes out.

dekkers is going to be good. like i said, he would have played last year if it wasn't for the guy in front of him being a 4 yr starter.

I think Dekkers is going to be good and like the upside of being able to get the ball over the top.

But when did info come out to the public saying he was beating Purdy in practice or whatever?

That sounds like the exact opposite of how this staff operates.

The 3-3-5 can evolve.

There has been some hype this summer about the talent among the DB's. Does that lead to breakups, deflections & interceptions. It also sounded like they wanted to play varied coverages to confuse opponent QB's.

But in the end, the best way to making QB's uncomfortable is getting defenders in their face. I gotta believe the staff convinced McDonald to come back with a plan to make him an elite college talent. Is that playing some LB so he can be a 4 down player? Or rush from different spots.

The challenge for our defense is to not allow games from last year like WVU and TT.

I have a hard time buying that Campbell played a clearly-inferior guy just because of seniority, when for every other position on the field (and his own general mantra of the team), he plays solely the best player available at the position. QB is quite literally the worst possible position to be holding back talent from. That just goes against everything else we see him do.

Downing played center against Clemson

I never heard anything about Dekkers outperforming Purdy in any capacity.
